Pleasantside and April Road Profile
Located in suburban Port Moody on the North Shore of the Burrard Inlet, the residential neighbourhoods of April Road and Pleasantside are very desirable areas with great south facing water and mountain views, and beautiful green country scapes that lure people to the community.
The beach side setting of Old Orchard Park in Pleasantside is a popular warm weather spot for swimming, and features a children’s adventure playground. Pleasantside also hosts some popular annual events including the Penguin Plunge and the Fingerling Festival.
Ioco Road serves as the primary traffic corridor in the lower North Shore neighbourhood, and is designated as part of the regional Major Road Network, carrying a large volume of traffic to and from the Belcarra and Anmore areas.
For this reason, the City has generally discouraged any development in the neighbourhood that would significantly add to existing traffic levels. Hence, recent development in the area has mostly been at single-family residential densities, a policy that will continue until alternative access to the Belcarra and Anmore areas is available.
The Salish First Nations were the early inhabitants of the Burrard Inlet area. Setting up summer/fall camps east of present Rocky Point Park, the area provided them with shellfish, deer hunting and berry picking. As you walk along the Shoreline Trail which spans from Rocky Point Park in the Moody Centre neighbourhood to Old Orchard Park in Pleasantside, evidence of these early inhabitants such as shells, bones and kitchen utensils can be found many feet deep below the trail.
A list of heritage properties of Pleasantside can be found on the Heritage Register.
