This Week in the Tri-Cities: VolunteerFest and More Fall Fun

Celebrate Mardi Gras in October, help volunteer, or meet your neighbours in a park this week in the Tri-Cities. As always more events can be found in the events calendar.

What:  “Drop, Cover and Hold On” – Community Earthquake Drills
When:  Thursday, October 15. 10:15am – 10:45am

The skinny:  Residents across the Tri-Cities are urged to join in the largest earthquake drill in BC history on October 15 at 10:15 a.m. – the Great British Columbia ShakeOut. The cities of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody are urging all Tri-City residents to hold drills in their homes, schools or workplaces. The three cities collaborate on emergency preparedness planning to ensure a coordinated response if a disaster occurs.

What:  Fraser Valley Regional Library is 85
When:  Thursday, October 15th. 10:30am – 12:00pm
Where:  Terry Fox Library, Port Coquitlam
The skinny:  Join us at Terry Fox Library for a celebration of Fraser Valley Regional Library’s 85th anniversary! This event will feature a special storytime with the Mayor and Councillors of Port Coquitlam, followed by refreshments. Everyone is welcome!

What:  She Began to Cross the Sky

The skinny:  This is a charming tale about young Josette and her magical journey on a high wire across the heavens. Setting forth to explore the heavens, she finds herself transformed into a little bird who must use her wits and courage to change the cosmos. Tickets available from the Arts Centre.

What:  Place des Arts Impromptu: Mardi Gras

What:  Hot Salsa Dance Night at Evergreen

Where:  Evergreen Cultural Centre, Coquitlam
The skinny:  Come party at the hottest Salsa and Latin Dance night in town. This month the featured dance is the Cha-Cha-Cha, with a lesson at 8pm and the dancing at 9pm, great fun is in store.

What:  Wellington Park Cleanup and Fall Family Fun

The skinny:  United Way Avenues of Change in Coquitlam River neighbourhood is inviting you to Community park clean up followed by children story telling in a giant inflatable salmon, children costume parade, pumpkin patch and free fall snacks. Come meet your neighbours!
