What: FREE Breadth of BeMoved Class

Where: Port Moody Recreation Complex
The skinny: Breadth of BeMoved Dance is great for helping people of all ages and physical abilities get and stay in shape. BeMoved has created 6 classical genres that appeal to our senior dancer and/or adults with physical challenges. Each BeMoved class starts with a gentle, seated warm-up progressing to upright dancing, or participants can choose to remain seated for the duration of class.

What: FREE LaBlast Class

The skinny: Created by world renowned dancer and ABC’s ‘Dancing with the Stars’ professional, Louis Van Amstel, LaBlast uniquely combines a wide variety of dance styles and music genres as seen on Dancing With the Stars. Do the Cha Cha Cha, Disco, Jive, Merengue, Salsa, Lindy Hop, Rumba, Hustle, Tango, Samba and more. Set to everything from pop and rock to hip-hop and country. No experience or partner necessary.

What: Patti Labelle

Where: Hard Rock Casino, Coquitlam
The skinny: Grammy Award-winning legend Patti LaBelle will be thrilling fans when she comes to Coquitlam. LaBelle began her career as part of The Ordettes in 1959. The trio changed their name to The Bluebelles two years later and then reformed as Labelle in 1971. Their 1974 album, Nightbirds featured the hit single, “Lady Marmalade” and was certified Platinum. After the group disbanded in 1977, LaBelle went on to pursue a solo career. Her 1983 album, I’m In Love Again produced the smash single, “If Only You Knew” which reached #1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart. The following year, she recorded the songs, “New Attitude” and “Stir It Up” which were featured on the soundtrack for the blockbuster film, Beverly Hills Cop.

What: Community Information Session

Where: Burke Mountain Firehall, Coquitlam
The skinny: The City of Coquitlam invites you to join them for an information session to learn about a number of projects taking place on Burke Mountain.At the session, residents will have the opportunity to learn about and provide feedback on plans for a number of initiatives including Partington Creek Neighbourhood Centre, the future use for city-owned lands in Smiling Creek and the design of Princeton Park. Attendees are encouraged to walk, cycle or carpool as parking is limited. What: Candlelight Tribute and Parade
When: Saturday, September 19, 2015 from 2:00 to 5:00pm
Where: Robinson Memorial Park Cemetery, Coquitlam
The skinny: Join the City of Coquitlam for this special event celebrating youth and our veterans. It’s a parade, candlelight tribute and a chance to meet and get to know some of our many veterans. At 2:00pm the parade begins from the south end of Robinson Street at Appian Way. It continues along Robinson Street towards the Robinson Memorial Park Cemetery. At 2:30pm honour our veterans by placing candles in remembrance. Veterans will pass the torch to youth. At 4:00pm meet with Veterans at Legion 263, 1025 Ridgeway Avenue, Coquitlam. Spend time with our veterans, hear their stories and learn from our past.

The skinny: Adults are often thrown by typical childhood behaviour and feel at a loss on how to help children navigate their BIG emotions. Unwittingly many of the techniques we implement backfire rather than resolve the situation and may result in disconnection between parent and child. What: The Incompleat Folksinger

The skinny: Pete Seeger was a folk singer, political activist, and a key figure in the mid-20th century American folk music revival. He sang in defence of the poor, the oppressed, and the exploited; and always to enliven and encourage, to delight, and to tell tales. The Incompleat Folksinger, adapted by Ross Desprez and Mark Hellman from the book of the same name, shares, in Seeger’s own words and music, his inspirations, his conflicts with the bosses and the government, his favorite songs, stories, and instruments, and the kind of learning that comes from listening carefully.
