Dining on the Plateau: Rogues Bar & Grill

On a recent Saturday evening when the kids were out with their grandparents my husband and I made a last-minute decision to go out to eat. But where to go? On a sunny weekend in the Tri-Cities we didn’t stand a chance of a table at most of our favourite haunts. Having recently enjoyed lunch at Rogues Bar & Grill at the Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club, we decided to give it a go.

It turned out our decision was a good one, as we were able to walk right out to the patio and choose a table. The patio area is large and covered, with a view looking over the golf course. Part of the patio was cordoned off for a wedding on the evening we were there, which actually made for some fun people-watching. While we definitely noticed the wedding, it wasn’t overbearing or too noisy. Had we been seated indoors we likely wouldn’t have noticed it at all. When there is not an event happening the patio is quiet, making for a nice change from other local patios.

Rogues has a single menu all day, and it’s reasonably extensive, with the standard selection of starters, salads, burgers and sandwiches, entrees and even breakfast fare. They have specials several nights each week – on the Saturday we were there it was prime rib night. They also have family night and date night, and they run a Happy Hour from 2:00-5:00pm daily.

The prices at Rogues are fairly reasonable. Starters average about $11 and so do breakfast options, a burger is $16 and a steak is $25. It’s not going to break the bank for an evening out, and it’s definitely competitive with other similar restaurants. The service was good. It was laid-back without being neglectful, and the servers were able to answer my questions about the menu.

But how was the food? I’ve eaten the BBQ pulled pork sliders, two of which were ample for a lunch for me, and I enjoyed them a lot. I definitely recommend ordering yam fry sauce for the yam fries. For dinner I had the beef short ribs stroganoff, which was excellent. My husband also enjoyed his food. It’s not high cuisine, but the quality was good and the serving sizes ample.

Rogues Bar & Grill is open during the golf season at Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club. Its hours during the season are 10:00am to close from Monday to Friday, and 9:00am to close on Saturday and Sunday.
