Summer in Port Moody: Golden Spike Days and RibFest

Golden Spike Days Ribfest 2015 Port Moody Rocky Point Park

Summer is officially here, and there are two festivals taking over Rocky Point Park that you’ll want to put on your calendar: Golden Spike Days and Port Moody RibFest. Here’s the scoop on both!

Golden Spike Days

Port Moody kicks off summer in style every year with its Golden Spike Days Festival. This year the festival runs from June 26-28, 2015. It’s open from 6:00-11:00pm on June 26, 11:00am-11:00pm on June 27, and 11:00am-8:00pm on June 28, 2015.

Admission is by donation, and there’s lots to see and do at this family-friendly event. There’s loads of entertainment, from perennial favourites Tony Prophet and the Golden Spike Can Can Dancers, to Nearly Neil and Tri-Cities Got Talent. There’s also food, a marketplace, kids activities and a whole lot more. Plus, new this year, the “Sundae” Afternoon Delight 3K Family Fun Run. You’ll be rewarded at the end of the race with delicious ice cream sundae.

Free parking is available at Inlet Park, Port Moody Rec Centre and Kyle Centre. Or walk, cycle or take transit.

Port Moody RibFest

The Rotary Club of Port Moody in partnership with the City of Port Moody is host to the inaugural Port Moody RibFest presented by Thrifty Foods. The event is taking place at Rocky Point Park from July 10-12, 2015 from 11:00am to 9:00pm daily. It’s designed for families, and it’s expected to attract over 30,000 people. No surprise, as admission is free.

Of course there will be amazing ribs, but you’ll also find live music, children’s activities and local craft brews. Several award-winning “Ribbers” from across North America will be offering up their ribs and other tasty BBQ creations to all those that attend. In addition to good ‘ol BBQ and live music, RibFest guests will be able to fill up on corn on the cob, as well as enjoy the tastes of other local food vendors within Rocky Point Park. Port Moody’s very own Yellow Dog Brewing and Moody Ales will be there to quench your thirst and B.C.’s successful Red Truck Beer Company will keep the fun flowing.

“We are excited to bring a new and exciting event like this to Port Moody for the people of this region, and we are thrilled with the tremendous corporate support we have received to date to help us stage this fundraiser”, states Rotarian and Ribfest Co-Chair Al Stjernegaard. “We invite everyone from across the Metro Vancouver area who love BBQ, live music and most of all fun to join us in July at the beautiful Rocky Point Park for an event like no other”, added Al.
