What: Rodgers and Hammerstein: Out of a Dream

Where: Evergreen Cultural Centre, Coquitlam
The skinny: Patrick Street Productions takes you by the hand on a romantic, timeless journey through the beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein songbook. Full of whimsy and nostalgia, Out of a Dream is a dreamy musical revue that draws from each and every show written by the prolific duo – including such cherished songs as “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning”, “If I Loved You”, “Younger than Springtime”, and more.

What: May Day Festival
When: On now through Sunday, May 10, 2015
Where: Locations throughout Port Coquitlam
The skinny: A tradition dating back to 1923 returns this week as the City of Port Coquitlam kicks off its annual May Day Festival. May Pole dancing, a parade through downtown Port Coquitlam, guided walks, a carnival, Youth Week events and more are planned for the annual celebration, running from May 1 to 10, 2015. And as if that wasn’t enough, most events are free.

What: Block Party for Babies
When: Friday, May 8, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00pm
Where: Rocky Point Park, Port Moody
The skinny: Join CTV for the wrap up of CTV Vancouver’s “Hope Starts Here” week. Everyone is invited to this FREE family-friendly event with children’s activities, food and live performance by Dr. Strangeglove. What: Film Night: The Spectacular Now
When: Friday, May 8, 2015 at 7:30pm
Where: Inlet Theatre, Port Moody
The skinny: Sutter Keely lives in the now. It’s a good place for him. A high school senior, charming and self-possessed, he’s the life of the party, and has no plans for the future. After being dumped by his girlfriend, Sutter gets drunk and wakes up with Aimee hovering over him. She’s different: the “nice girl”. While Aimee has dreams of a future, Sutter lives in the delusion of a spectacular now, yet somehow, they’re drawn together.

What: Crossroads Coffeehouse: Axis 11
When: Friday, May 8, 2015 at 7:30pm
Where: The Gathering Place, Leigh Square, Port Coquitlam
The skinny: The open mic starts at 7:30, and then featured performer, Axis 11, takes the stage at 9:00pm. Joy Masuhara and Lyndsay Ferguson are mental health professionals who play music that reflect the struggles and issues of the population they serve. They have a unique sound, blending guitar, cahon, banjo and ukelele, and have been compared to the Indigo Girls by their fans.

What: Honeymoon Suite & Streetheart
When: Friday, May 8, 2015 at 8:00pm
Where: Hard Rock Casino, Coquitlam
The skinny: Juno Award-winning Canadian bands Honeymoon Suite and Streetheart will be rocking the stage. It was in 1982 when lead singer Johnny Dee, lead guitarist Derry Grehan and drummer Dave Betts founded Honeymoon Suite in their hometown of Niagara Falls. The group’s self-titled debut album was released in 1984 and featured the hit singles, “New Girl Now”, “Burning in Love”, “Stay in the Light” and “Wave Babies”. Formed in Winnipeg by frontman Kenny Shields, keyboardist Daryl Gutheil and bassist Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve in 1977, Streetheart has earned a total of six Gold albums and four Platinum albums. They topped the charts with a non-stop string of hits including “Action”, “Hollywood”, “Under My Thumb”, “Tin Soldier”, “What Kind of Love is This”, “Snow White”, “Look In Your Eyes” and “One More Time”.

What: Westminster Savings Family Day: Some Things with Hoses

Where: Evergreen Cultural Centre, Coquitlam
The skinny: There is more to a humble garden hose than meets the eye. Take some pieces of different colour hose and let your imagination, well, flow. There will be many examples on hand of things you could make, but of course, you may like to transform some hoses into whatever your mind supposes. All Family Days are drop in and by donation. What: Los Lonely Boys & Lukas Nelson

Where: Hard Rock Casino, Coquitlam
The skinny: Tex-Mex sibling trio Los Lonely Boys will be bringing their unique mix of blues-rock and brown-eyed soul andthey will be joined by special guest Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real. Hailing from San Angelo, Texas, the Garza brothers – guitarist Henry Garza, bassist Jojo Garza and drummer Ringo Garza, Jr. – formed Los Lonely Boys in the early 90’s. They recorded their 1993 self-titled debut album in Austin at Willie Nelson’s Pedernales studio with Willie sitting in. The album’s lead single, “Heaven” was a huge hit on the charts and garnered the band a Grammy Award for “Best Pop Performance” while their second single, “More Than Love” earned them a Grammy nomination. Guitarist, singer & songwriter Lukas Nelson was raised on his father, Willie Nelson’s famed Honeysuckle Rose bus. Today, the 25-year-old Lukas is still on the road but with his own band, Promise of the Real.

What: Mother’s Day Tree Tour
When: Sunday, May 10, 2015 at 1:00pm
Where: Henry Esson Young (HEY) Building, Riverview Hospital, Coquitlam
The skinny: Walks and tours are free and open to the public and run rain or shine. They are led by members of the Riverview Horticulture Centre Society and last about two hours, depending on weather and walkers’ preference. Dress for the weather, and wear comfy shoes or boots. Children are always welcome. Dogs must be on ‘leash’.
