Port Moody Date Night with Dog: A True Story

Dog activities Port Moody

The nights are getting warmer and longer, and soon evenings will be the most pleasant time of day to be out and about once more. Take advantage of what the neighbourhood has to offer with your SO and your furry pal. Port Moody peeps – it’s time for date night with dog!

Three Dog Bakery

Start your evening before 6pm in order to stock up on delicious treats for your four-legged date. Situated conveniently in Suter Brook, this delightful bakery for dogs can serve up an evening’s worth of nibbles for your canine companion. Made from the finest ingredients, the biscuits and bagels will ensure your date-night dog pal will have as much fun as the humans on your evening out.

Inlet Trail

Maybe pick up a coffee or tea before heading out onto the Inlet Trail. Head back towards the Rec Centre before picking up the boardwalk, letting your canine companion check out the ducks and geese at low tide on the mudflats. If you are lucky, and the tide is well in then maybe there will be a seal or two to bark at. Don’t hold back – join in!

Eats

Head to Rocky Point Park on the south side of the inlet. The number one dog-friendly eating establishment in this area is Pajos, where you can get (in my opinion) the best fish and chips outside the Shetland Isles. Pick from cod, haddock, salmon or all three in the amazing Three of Each sampler. Fries are generous, and the house lemonade is an excellent way to wash it all down. Don’t forget the tartare sauce!

Alternatively, on Friday nights you may be lucky and find a food truck or two at one of the craft breweries on Murray Street. Both Yellow Dog Breweryand Moody Ales invite food trucks along – so keep an eye on their Facebook pages for updates.

Dog-friendly patios are another great feature of both craft breweries; Yellow Dog’s is out the back, so care and respect when walking through to find a seat. Moody Ales has a comfortable seating area out front where you can watch the sun go down through the bottom of your glass. You can also take your fish and chips, or food truck supplies through with you, ordering a glass or a flight of whatever you fancy to complete the meal.

Dessert

Where else but Rocky Point Ice Cream … ? Complete the evening with a Doggy Cone for Buster and, if you’re lucky, a date night sundae to share for the hoomans*.

Star Gazing

Head out to the end of the pier, throw your head back and howl at the moon. Bark at some more seals.

Bon appetit!

*Don’t worry if you’re out late – just stroll back to Suter Brook and check out Menchies for great frozen yogurt (and all the sprinklings). No doggy cone – sorry Buster.
