Join the Blue Dot Movement in Port Coquitlam

Blue Dot Movement Port Coquitlam

The Blue Dot Movement is spreading to Port Coquitlam. Blue Dot is a comprehensive, multi-year campaign to support Canadians who want meaningful action to protect the people and places they love. Backed by the David Suzuki Foundation, their mission is to have every Canadian’s right to a healthy environment recognized in our Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It has grown into a movement of millions of ordinary people taking extraordinary action to protect our right to a healthy environment and inspire the next generation of environmental leaders.

The Blue Dot name comes from our planet, that looks like a small blue dot when viewed from space. When compared to the rest of the universe the earth is small, but it is our only home. We need to do our best to take care of it for ourselves and for our children.

Just in time for Earth Day, Blue Dot is organizing a national day of action to celebrate the growing number of Canadians who believe in the right to live in a healthy environment. On Sunday, April 19, 2015 people will gather together in communities across Canada and show how big the Blue Dot Movement really is. Here in the Tri-Cities there is an event happening from 1:00-5:00pm in Leigh Square in Port Coquitlam.

The event promises family-friendly fun that encourages everyone – presenters, entertainers, participants and audience members to engage one another in a respectful and positive sharing of information and ideas that ensure our right to live in a healthy environment. There will be guest speakers from local government and David Suzuki Blue Dot, exhibitors displaying innovative products, organic food and beverages, entertainers and displays.

The organizers’ goal is to reach out to all members of our community and gather support for the Blue Dot movement. They will then make a presentation to the Port Coquitlam Healthy Community Committee, recommending that city council adopt the Blue Dot Municipal Declaration.
