The skinny:
Produced by the Société francophone de Maillardville, Festival du Bois is the largest francophone event west of the Rockies. The festival brings together over 15,000 people from all over the lower mainland, and features exceptional artists from across the country. Over the weekend, audiences can expect to learn more about Maillardville and its village, participate in fun activities, bring back some souvenirs and maple syrup, and indulge the taste buds with delicious tourtière, maple taffy on snow, homemade poutine and other tasty francophone and world fare. Un weekend de folie with great music, amazing artists, outstanding performers, entertaining activities and authentic food. Don’t forget to wear your best plaid!

What: Crossroads Coffeehouse presents Steve Sainas
When:

For over fifteen years local musicians from across the Lower Mainland have helped raise funds and awareness for the Crossroads Inlet Centre Hospice. Today the “Unplugged at the Crossroads Hospice Coffeehouse” series is set in a causal atmosphere centered on acoustical performances from a wide range of musical genres. Steve Sainis is an original root-blues guitarist/singer/songwriter who has been performing with his band Mud Dog since 1997. He’ll be going creatively solo here with originals and covers. There are also many spots for the open stage performances, so email wrmarshall@shaw.ca if you’d like to step up to the mic!

What: Bridget Ryan: Here’s to the Ladies Who Laugh

The skinny:
Part musical theatre, part stand up comedy, 100% entertaining. Accompanied by pianist Jen McMillan, Bridget Ryan’s meticulously chosen musical and comedic vignettes (featuring hits of the 80’s, songs from musical comedies, ABBA, and classics from the world of Jazz) take us on a musical journey of life’s ups and downs through song. It’s inspirational, it’s identifiable, and it’s funny. Song mash-ups, song-a-logues and good ol’ fashioned stand-up will have audiences of all ages rolling in the aisles! Bridget Ryan is an actor, singer, playwright, director, and keynote speaker. She is currently the co-host of CityTV’s Breakfast Television in Edmonton.

What: 5th Annual Give Her Wings Gala

The skinny:
Presented by the Soroptimist International of the TriCities, this event recognizes the achievements of women and girls in the TriCities with four awards: The Live Your Dream Award, the Give Her Wings Award, The Violet Richardson Award, and the Ruby Award. Funds raised go to support CABE “Lunch and Learn”, Glory House evenings, A Warm Place for Women, YWCA (Como Lake Gardens, Single Moms and Children), and Bea’s Kloset.  The evening includes Silent and Live Auctions.

What: Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation’s Eat Your Heart Out and Taste the Tri-Cities by Trolley

Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation’s Eat Your Heart Out is back!  Taste the Tri-Cities by Trolley at this dine around event.  1 night, 6 restaurants, 1 great cause! Complimentary trolley travel begins and ends at the Galleria, shuttling you between restaurants, with your choice of two loops and sample taster menus at three fabulous restaurants, followed by more mingling at the Galleria and dessert provided by Christine Catering.

: The Gallery Bistro is the place to be on Monday evenings if you love to play or listen to live jazz. Gord Hembruff and Craig Townsend will lead their house bands on alternating weeks with drums, bass, guitar, piano and sax. Musicians and general public are welcome to attend this free event.
