What: Open Mic All Night @ Crossroads Coffeehouse

The skinny: For over twelve years local musicians from across the Lower Mainland have joined us to help raise funds and awareness for the Crossroads Inlet Centre Hospice. The “Unplugged at the Crossroads Hospice Coffeehouse” series is set in a causal atmosphere centered on acoustical performances from a wide range of musical genres.

What: Port Moody Film Society presents In a Better World

The skinny: The story traces events from a refugee camp in the Sudan to the gray humdrum of everyday life in a Danish provincial town. The lives of two families cross each other, and an extraordinary but risky friendship comes into bud. But loneliness, frailty and sorrow lie in wait. The friendship transforms into a dangerous alliance and a breathtaking pursuit in which life is at stake. A film from Denmark, presented in Danish with English subtitles. Rated R.

What: Port Moody Winter Farmers Market
When: Sunday, January 11, 2015, and every Sunday through April 26, 2015 from 10:00am to 2:00pm

The skinny: Established in 2008, the Port Moody Winter Farmers Market began as a biweekly market in the lobby and courtyard of the Port Moody Rec Centre. For the first time, the 2014-2015 winter season will see the market run on a weekly basis. Come by for local BC products, artisan crafts, and delicious baked goods!

What: Place des Arts Family Day
When: Sunday, January 11, 2015 from 1:30 to 3:30pm

The skinny: Family Day at PdA is designed to actively engage families in learning about art in a fun, interactive and informal environment. Each family day offers a guided tour of the current exhibitions plus three drop-in style workshops geared for all ages where families create artworks based on what they have learned during their visit. For this session, gather up the family and tour three exhibitions: Exploring Iceland by BOB Photography Collective; Monokuro by Moira Carroll and Visible Form by the My Artist’s Corner group. Then participate in several, all-ages art activities based on the exhibitions.

The skinny: Come on out and enjoy an evening of delicious eats and treats while thoroughly trouncing your fellow board game aficionados @ Me-n-Ed’s Pizza on McAllister! Bring your ‘A’ game and dominate in a game of Dominion; settle old scores in Settlers of Catan; punch somebody’s ticket in Ticket to Ride! Enjoy a wide selection of card & board games such as Qwirkle, Carcassone, Stone Age, and more, or bring your own favourites to add to the fray! Food and drink are available from Me-N-Ed’s for separate purchase (we suggest pitching in with others for a group pizza, etc. if everyone is so inclined, or purchase your own). Please note that outside food & drink may not be brought onto the premises for consumption.
