What: Girls’ Night Out at PoMo Arts: Holiday Shop, Sip & Spa
When: Thursday, December 4 from 6:00 – 9:00pm
Where: PoMo Arts Centre [map]
The skinny: Enjoy a fun evening of holiday shopping, seasonal cheer, and pampering spa treatments! Wrap up your holiday shopping list at two exhibitions: Winter Treasures: The Fine Art of Holiday Giving, and Blackberry Artist’s Society Christmas Marketplace. Both shows feature: original works of visual arts, ceramics, jewelry, textiles, wood-working, and more, made by local artisans, with prices ranging from $15 to $500. With your ticket, you’ll receive complimentary beauty & spa pampering treats, a glass of champagne or sparkling cider to sip while you shop, light holiday nibbles, and a swag bag worth an estimated $40.

What: Exhibition Opening – Beyond Real: Overexposed Underexposed
When: Thursday, December 4 from 7:00 – 9:00pm

The skinny: Enjoy holiday-inspired refreshments at this free, all ages event, the opening reception of Beyond Real: Overexposed Underexposed, an exhibition by artist Jeanette Sirois. Meet the artist, get inspired by her art and learn something new about portrait painting. Referencing photographs, Sirois’ exhibition focuses on hyper-realistic portrait drawings using colored pencils to depict fine details such as wrinkles, smiles, frowns, lines, forms, shapes and colours. Sirois connects the idea of the face to inner beauty and the journey and life of an individual.

What: Ornate Origami
When: Friday, December 5 from 6:30 – 8:30pm
Where: Leigh Square Community Arts Village [map]
The skinny: Come and take part in the Japanese cultural art form of Origami. The goal of this art is to transform a flat sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques. Learn the basics of Origami while creating Christmas sculptures that you can decorate your home with or give to someone special. An all ages event, under 14 must be accompanied by a parent.

What: BeatleShow!

The skinny: A free all-ages event and celebrating light at this dark time of year! Take part in a variety of art and heritage activities, take in the entertainment, and visit the Festive Market!  Create your own lantern and other seasonal crafts; visit with Father Christmas; watch an old-time radio play, enjoy live music and song, decorate some cookies, and check out the holiday bake sale, pottery show & sale, and the Christmas Boutique!

What: Dragon Boat Tree Ornament Making
When: Wednesday, December 10 from 6:30-9:00pm

The skinny: Join textile artist, Terry Villaneuve, for a fun evening of ornament making using embroidery thread wrapping techniques. No matter what artistic ability, anyone can create a gorgeous Chinese cultural dragon boat ornament. These dragon boats are a Chinese traditional ornament that were thought to help ward away evil spirits and were once filled with sweet-smelling spices. Bring some culture into your home while producing an artful ornament for the holidays. All supplies included. A 14+ event.
