What: Christmas at the Pomo Arts Centre

The skinny:
The first Christmas celebration in the new Applewood Parlour! The Arts Centre will be decorated for the season plus the gallery and Blackberry shop will be filled with handmade art and craft items to view and buy. Come and light tealights to dispell the dark and rainy winter night. Sample traditional treats and sip a complimentary hot beverage while you mingle, have a laugh, sing, hum, or fa-la-la during the carol sing-along with musical accompaniment.

What: B3 Kings Christmas Show
When: Friday, December 12 from 8:00 – 10:00pm
Where: Evergreen Cultural Centre [map]
The skinny: The B3 Kings are a funky and festive jazz quartet formed in 2002 for a Christmas concert at The Cellar in Vancouver. The show was such a huge success that the concert has become an annual event. Canadian vocal sensation Denzal Sinclaire, an internationally known jazz star, doubles as vocalist/drummer, Hammond B3 organist Chris Gestrin brings wicked organ grooves and creative arrangements of Christmas classics, saxophonist Cory Weeds brings an unbridled enthusiasm to the saxophone, and guitarist Bill Coon is as funky as they come with a wonderful jazz sensibility.

What: Westminster Savings Family Day: Landscapes of the Season
When: Saturday, December 13 from 1:00 – 4:00pm
Where: Art Gallery at Evergreen Cultural Centre [map]
The skinny: Pick one of our ready-made landscape tableaus and then, using your imagination, some handy two and three-dimensional art materials, and a little inspiration from Erin McSavaney’s Some Intersections, work together to create your own scene for the holiday season. We will take a photograph of your festive creation, make a colour print for you to take home, and email you a digital copy suitable for making and sending cards to family and friends.

What: Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble (PSWE): An “Old World” Christmas
When: Saturday, December 13 from 8:00 – 10:00pm

The skinny:  A Co-Presentation with Evergreen Cultural Centre. The audience will select the program from a carefully prepared list of pieces that reflect the beauty of the old world repertoire inspired by the Christmas season. Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble (PSWE) Founded in 1981 by conductor Maurice Backun, it was a group of talented wind and percussion players looking for musical challenges that brought the Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble (PSWE) into being. Over twenty years later, the ensemble has grown and matured to the point where it takes a leading role in music education in British Columbia and is committed to supporting Canadian composers. Yet the ensemble remains true to its roots – providing its members the chance to get together and play challenging wind music.
