It continues to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere in the Tri-Cities! See Babes in Toyland, greet the CPR Holiday Train, or, take a “parents’ night off” and give the kids a night out!

What: Babes in Toyland
When: Thursday, December 18 and Saturday, December 20 from 1:00 – 3:00pm; Friday, December 19 and Saturday, December 20 from 7:00 – 9:00pm

The skinny: theatrix youtheatre society presents Babes in Toyland, by Victor Herbert – an original musical with music by Yurgen Ileander!

What: 2014 Canadian Pacific Holiday Train’s Final Stops, in Port Moody & Port Coquitlam
When: Thursday, December 18 from 5:25 – 6:30pm in Port Moody & 7:15 – 8:15pm in Port Coquitlam
Where: in Port Moody behind the Arena and Rec Centre [map]; in Port Coquitlam at the Poco West Coast Express Station [map]
The skinny: Every year, the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train makes stops through dozens of communities, raising food and cash donations for North American food banks. The Holiday will embark on its three-week journey from Beaconsfield, Quebec, finishing up with a stop in Port Moody and then making its final stop in Port Coquitlam! This event features a boxcar stage, a lineup of great musical talent, Juno award winner Jim Cuddy and Juno nominee Tracey Brown. All donations will be contributed to SHARE food and toy drive. Everyone who attends is encouraged to donate food and money.

What: Parents’ Night Off, Kids’ Night Out
When: Saturday, December 20 from 6:00 – 10:00pm

The skinny: Let the Christmas countdown begin! Drop off the kids for this exciting edition of Parents’ Night Off, Kids’ Night Out. Children will enjoy active games, arts & crafts and cooking. Top it off with a 3D movie and you have an amazing experience for your child.

What: Hard Rock Vancouver’s First Birthday – with Bif Naked & Everlast
When: Saturday, December 20 at 8:00pm
Where: The Theatre at Hard Rock Vancouver [map]
The skinny: Hard Rock Casino Vancouver will be celebrating its first anniversary on December 20! To mark the occasion, Bif Naked will be performing with her band while Everlast will bring his special acoustic show to the stage in this exclusive concert event. Cabaret Seating with partial proceeds going to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

What: The Shortest Day – a free film festival
When: Sunday, December 21 from 1:00 – 6:40pm: kids program from 1:00 – 2:00pm; family program from 3:00 – 4:30pm; adults only from 5:00 – 6:40pm
Where: Evergreen Cultural Centre [map]
The skinny: The Shortest Day is a celebration of short films offering free screenings across the country. Started by the CENTRE NATIONAL DU CINÉMA ET DE L’IMAGE ANIMÉE (CNC) in France in 2011, the event has now spread to some 50 other countries. From Newfoundland and Labrador to Yukon, more than 60 participating venues—movie theatres, cultural centres, associations, festivals and libraries—will join the celebration and hold free screenings of one or several of the three thematic programs: kids, family, and comedy. A wonderful opportunity for audiences to discover talented Canadian filmmakers who have been honoured here and abroad on the festival circuit. The Shortest Day: an entertaining way of welcoming the winter solstice on December 21!

What: Jingle Bells – Help Break the Record!
Monday, December 22 at 7:00pm
Where: Behind the Coquitlam Innovation Centre [map]
The skinny: Dress up in your ugliest Christmas sweater and festive hat then join us as we try to break the record for most people singing ‘Jingle Bells’. The first 100 people to show up will receive a free jingle bell! Hot chocolate and treats will also be available. This event will be held rain or shine.
