Lighting up the Tri-Cities

Christmas Tree Lighting 2013 Coquitlam

With Remembrance Day now firmly behind us, we’re hurtling headlong towards the holiday season. The Tri-Cities is preparing to deck its halls in honour of the season, and there are a number of events coming up to celebrate. If you’d like to help light up the region, we have a list of events you’ll want to add to your holiday calendar.

Coquitlam’s Seasonal Lights

We missed Light the Hall in Coquitlam – the annual event happened last weekend. However, the seasonal lights will be on all season long, running until late January. Visit the free light displays at City Hall, Spirit Square, Town Centre Park’s Lafarge Lake and the Inspiration Garden. The caterpillar tunnel is an annual favourite for our family. The lights can be viewed seven days a week from dusk to midnight.

Suter Brook Tree Lighting

December 4, 2014, 6:00-9:00pm
Few local events are as enigmatic as those held at Suter Brook. Their website isn’t exactly forthcoming, and their Facebook page is spotty at best. We typically get our information about events when we happen to be shopping at Thrifty’s. All the same, this annual event is a local favourite, featuring sleigh rides, a choir, hot beverages and snacks, Christmas craft making and of course a giant Christmas tree.

A Lantern Affair

December 6, 2014, 5:00-7:30pm
Usher in the holiday season with a host of festive activities and performances at Place des Arts, Mackin House and Gare de Fraser Mills Station Museum! A Lantern Affair includes art and heritage activities, a festive market and, of course, lots of great entertainment. Make your own lantern for the lantern ceremony, during which Place des Arts’ Musical Theatre Company will perform. Visit with Father Christmas, decorate some cookies, enjoy free Tim Hortons goodies, tick some items off your gift list and more.
