This week is reading week, bulb-planting week and the lead-up to Halloween in the Tri Cities. Plenty to do! More events in The V3H Events Calendar.

What: Community Bulb Planting Event
When:  Thursday, October 23 from 10:00am – 2:00pm
Where: Como Lake Park, 700 Gatensbury Street (map)
The skinny: Help to bring Como Park alive! Coquitlam’s Park Spark program is hosting a community bulb-planting event. Neighbours, school groups and local businesses are encouraged to stop by Como Lake Park to help plant flower bulbs around the park. Volunteers will be able to work alongside City gardening staff and other community members to create a beautiful flower display come spring. All necessary equipment and bulbs will be supplied. Come prepared to get a little dirty. All those interested are welcome to participate.

What: An Evening at the Museum with Guy Black

What: Heritage Ghost Walk with the Canadian Paranormal Society

What: 36th Annual Rock & Gem Show: Marvellous Mud
When:  Saturday, October 25 and Sunday, October 26 from 10:00am – 5:00pm

The skinny: Featuring local lapidary artists and wonders of nature, the annual rock & gem show is an enjoyable and fascinating event for visitors of all ages. The 2014 show themed, “Marvellous Mud”, will explore fossils and mud-formed jaspers. Highlights for the 2014 show include: Special Displays, Sales / Marketplace, Demonstrations, Prize Draws, Silent Auction, Spin ‘n Win, Grab Bags and Food & Beverages.

What:  Family Day at PdA! with Mr. I’s Spooky Songs & Stories

The skinny:  Gather up the family and tour three exhibitions, meet the artists and participate in several all-ages workshops! Join us at 2pm for Mr. I’s Spooky Songs & Stories concert, perfect for getting wee ones (and the rest of us) in the mood for haunting! Art Activities: Create symmetrical abstract landscapes based on artist Elaine Hunter’s digitally manipulated photography; Craft sharpie tie-die coasters using what you’ve learned from Karen Santos’ exhibition; Get funky by using old CD’s to make a handmade glitter ball, in reference to Place des Arts recent disco-themed Impromptu event. What:  House Height Town Hall Meeting
When:  Monday, October 27 from 7:00 – 9:00pm
Where:  Inlet Theatre, Port Moody Civic Centre, 100 Newport Drive (map)
The skinny:   The City of Port Moody will be hosting a Town Hall meeting to discuss house size, height, and placement. The Town Hall will take place on October 27, at 7pm at City Hall. As a follow-up to the July 15, 2014 “Let’s discuss house size and height in Port Moody” Forum Council continued the discussion at the July 29, 2014 Special Committee of the Whole Meeting. For over four hours, Council created resolutions based on the feedback from the July 15th Forum and asked staff to start scheduling additional public consultation opportunities.
Next Steps: This process is just starting. On September 9, 2014 Council finalized a plan to engage residents and property owners in a consultation process so that we can hear from you. A copy of the Council report is available.
