2015 Wearable Art Awards: Call for Submissions

Wearable Art Awards 2013 Port Moody Arts Centre

The Wearable Art Awards are coming back to Port Moody on February 21 and 22, 2015. If you are a fashion and art aficionado, you’ll want to mark the event on your calendar. If, on the other hand, you’re an artist, you’ll want to pay attention because the event is accepting submissions right now.

Organized by the Port Moody Arts Centre, the Wearable Art Awards is not a fashion show. Rather, it is a multi-media performance where the human body becomes a living, breathing, moving canvas. The event organizers are asking artists to go deep into their imaginations to create a wearable piece of art. The pieces should challenge what most consider to be wearable, or everyday, fashion. The Arts Centre is committed to challenging artists of all mediums to push their imaginations to create evocative, imaginative and thought provoking sculpture for the human body.

An entry must fall into one of the following three form-based categories:

  1. Headdress
  2. Brassiere (female or male)
  3. Complete Outfit

Note that to be considered a complete outfit, the entry should cover a model’s upper and lower body. Please do not include shoes; shoe covers are better for the models/dancers.

So, what’s in it for you if you decide to submit (other than the joy of artistic expression, of course)? Cold hard cash is what. A total of $7500 will be awarded. Best in Show receives $1000, the Student Prize is $750 and People’s Choice is $1000. The other $4750 will be judged and awarded by the following classes:

  • Light
  • Recycling
  • Nature
  • Cartoons
  • Offbeat

The electronic application deadline is November 15, 2014, and successful entries will be notified on December 1, 2014. For more information, or to apply, see the Call for Entry at pomoarts.ca/events/wearable-art-awards/call-for-entry.
