What: Coquitlam Industrial Zone Meeting
When:  Thursday, July 24 from 3:00 – 7:00pm
Where:  Hard Rock Casino Show Theatre, 2080 United Boulevard (map)
The skinny:  The City of Coquitlam is seeking the input of industrial property and business owners and the real estate community over the next month as it proceeds with a review and consolidation of its industrial zones. As part of the City’s action plan to be more business-friendly, the current nine industrial zones are to be replaced with three new proposed zones to better meet the needs of the business community, provide a broader range of permitted activities, and be more flexible for the property users. The project was initiated in response to input from the local business community. Industrial property owners, realtors and other stakeholders are invited to attend an information meeting on July 24, 3 to 7 pm in the upper lobby at the Hard Rock Casino (2080 United Blvd.). Participants will be able to learn more and ask questions about the review and new zones, share their ideas with staff and neighbours, and provide their comments to the City. What: Port Coquitlam Farmers Market
When:  Thursday, July 24 from 3:00 – 7:00pm
Where:  Leigh Square Community Arts Village, 2253 Leigh Square Place (map)
The skinny:  A busy and colourful downtown Market with fresh produce picked that morning, fruits when in season, seafood, sausage, pickles, jams, jellies, conserves, eggs, fresh baked bread and cookies, fairtrade coffe, fine art, fibre art, woodworking and so much more. A children’s craft and lively entertainment will encourage you to stay and relax awhile.

What: City of Coquitlam Neighbourhood Night – Eagle Ridge Park

The skinny: You’re invited to Neighbourhood Night, a free community block party at Eagle Ridge Park on Thursday, July 17 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Bring your family, meet your neighbours and enjoy a beautiful evening the park. In the case of rain, Neighborhood Night will be re-scheduled for Tuesday July 29th 6:00-8:00pm.

What: Cinema Under the Stars

The skinny: For an unforgettable Friday night experience, start your weekend off with an outdoor movie night this summer!  Leigh Square will showcase recent movies on our 26ft tall enormous silver screen  at Sun Valley and Gates parks,  so pack a picnic, bring a blanket and round up some friends or bring the whole family out to Cinema Under the Stars! What: Eagle Ridge Auxiliary Weekend Coffee Program

The skinny: Eagle Ridge Hospital Auxiliary Weekend Coffee Program Saturdays from 9 am to 3 pm and Sundays from Noon to 5 pm. Sales of beverages and baked goods to raise funds for the purchase of needed hospital equipment and patient comfort items for Eagle Ridge Hospital.

What: Port Moody Day Picnic

The skinny:   Grab your friends, family and neighbours and celebrate Port Moody Day! Spend the day down at Rocky Point Park enjoying races and games for kids, great entertainment and a free firework extravaganza! Seasoned entertainer and local favorite Tony Prophet is on hand to host the whole day with his trademark energy and fun. If you’re looking for award-winning, family-friendly music, Charlotte Diamond kicks things off at 2pm with a selection of great tunes sure to please parents and kids alike. We’ll also be singing along with the talented folks who’ve made it into the karaoke regional finals, and watching our own local youth talent make their mark. Kids looking to burn off a little energy can spend the afternoon winning ribbons (and bragging rights) in a number of races and games. What: Multicultural Fair

What: Wine Tasting Club

The skinny:  Meet some new friends and learn what styles of wine you enjoy at this relaxing monthly wine tasting! Join our team for the evening and sample a flight of 5 to 6 wines matched with gourmet cheeses. Our wine experts will guide you through the tasting so you can learn something interesting about each wine and discover new favourites. Wines sampled are from around the world, and vary at each tasting. Less than 20 guests join us monthly. Drop-in memberships are available for $40 per person.

What: Grow Your Own Hops
When:  Wednesday, July 30 from 6:00 – 8:00pm
Where: Inspiration Garden, Coquitlam (map)
The skinny: Home brewers and craft beer connoisseurs can try their hand at growing hops! Learn to how to grow your own and what varieties are available to make specialty beers, lagers and ales. Taught by Mike Por, Landscape Manager for the City of Coquitlam Parks Department, and Darren Hollett, a craft beer brewer with Mission Springs Brewing. Por will cover growing, propagation, culturing and harvesting of hops crops. Hollett will discuss how to choose the best hops variety for your taste buds. The workshop is hosted at the Inspiration Garden, located on the corner of Guildford and Pipeline, in Town Centre Park.
