Opera at the Lake 2014

Marraige of Figaro Evergreen Cultural Centre Opera at the Lake

If you’re looking for some serious culture in the Tri-Cities this summer, check out Evergreen Cultural Centre. They’re planning to bring Opera at the Lake back to the shores of Lafarge Lake on August 22-24, 2014.

Opera on the Lake is presented by DragonDiva Operatic Theatre, based in New Westminster. They’re on a mission to create high calibre opera that is accessible to both opera lovers and future enthusiasts. To accomplish that, they foster an environment where artists learn from each other. They will be performing The Marriage of Figaro at 8:00pm on the 22nd and 23rd, and at 2:00pm on the 24th.

The Marriage of Figaro will be set as if it were one of the Arabian Nights’ 1001 Tales. Make that 1002! The tale follows a single day of madness – the very day that Figaro and Susanna, servants to the Sheikh and his wife, are to be married. Quick-paced and fun, The Marriage of Figaro will charm opera aficionados and newcomers alike. It will be sung in Italian with English surtitles.

As if all that isn’t enough, following the performance you’ll retreat to the lobby for complimentary dessert and coffee, as well as the chance to mingle with your fellow attendees.

Tickets are $25 each. To get yours visit www.evergreenculturalcentre.ca or call 604.927.6555.

  1. Thanks to The V3H and their sharp awareness of what’s going on in our community. One minor thing about Opera at the Lake that may be confusing – it doesn’t really take place outdoors on the shores of Lafarge Lake, but inside our Studio Theatre. Summers have proved to be too unpredictable to safely stage such an event under the stars. Although, from the comfort of our lobby and adjacent patio, the view of the lake is spectacular!

This is the 3rd annual presentation of Opera at the Lake, and DragonDiva Operatic Theatre never fails to deliver. They make opera fun, and their productions are always energetic and entertaining. “The Marriage of Figaro” is classic comic opera, and the music is terrific (you’ll recognize some of it from Bugs Bunny cartoons!) We look forward to this weekend every year.
