Golden Spike. Canada Day, pancake breakfast – it’s getting into my favourite time of year in the Tri Cities. Forget about all the extra childcare you’ve been scrambling for and that summer vacation started startlingly early – get out and enjoy summer (dammit).

What: Port Moody Firefighters 37th Annual Pancake Breakfast
When:Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29 from 8:00am – 12:00pm
Where:Inlet Centre Fire Hall (map)
The skinny:Roll up, roll up! The annual sausage-and-pancakes fest from our awesome fire department. They’ve scrubbed up their grills, rounded up the goods and will be serving them up for your culinary delight this weekend. All money raised goes to Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation and the Crossroads Hospice. Get stuffed for a good cause!

What: Golden Spike Days Festival
When:  Saturday, June 28 to Tuesday, July 1 from 11:00am – 8:00pm (times vary)
Where:   Rocky Point Park, 2800 Murray Street (map)
The skinny:   Celebrate Port Moody’s link with the railways and welcome the arrival of summer with this four-day fest taking over Rocky Point Park. Jostle with your neighbours, take rides on the funfair activities and listen to some damned fine entertainment. This is summer, Port Moody.

What: Maple Leaf Military Show
When:Saturday, June 28 to Tuesday, July 1 daily
Where: Port Moody Station Museum, Murray Street (map)
The skinny: Check out all the ways that Canada’s military serve their country in this annual display at the Station Museum. Marching bands, displays, honour guard and a concession for your education. Take part in activities and show your appreciation.

What: PoCO EPCom Field Day
When:Saturday, June 28 from 12:00 – 4:00pm
Where: Castle Park, 2252 Castle Crescent, Port Coquitlam (map)
The skinny: Help your local emergency radio get connected in this worldwide amateur radio competition. Drop by the park, dial up on the trusty wireless equipment and chat with hams worldwide.

What: Canada Day Celebrations
When:  Tuesday, July 1
Where:   around the Tri Cities
The skinny:   Port Moody Mayor and council say Happy 147th birthday to Canada in this official ceremony from 1:00 – 1:30pm at Rocky Point Park, 2800 Murray Street (map)– cupcakes, refreshments and live entertainment to hand. Happy Canada Day!

Coquitlam celebrates Canada Day Due to the Evergreen Line construction, the site is a little farther north than it was last year. The festivities still take place in Town Centre Park and the fireworks will be rocketing skywards from 10:00pm. Admission is free.

Port Coquitlam celebrates with a pancake breakfast and then cake, entertainment and wraps with a barbecue.

    Coquitlam Celebrates Canada Day – is not in a removed location. We just moved north to a larger event site….still lots of great stuff to see and experience. Mattine at 8:15 P.M. on the Coquitlam Stage – Great Food from the Taste of Coquitlam and entertainment on three stages all day long. See you here!
