The summer solstice is coming up this weekend, which officially marks midsummer. If you like the celebrate the longest day of the year, you’ll be glad to hear that Midsummer Fête is back for 2014. This whimsical tea party at Colony Farm Regional Park in Coquitlam features environmental awareness, visual art, a labyrinth and hands-on activities. Plus (of course) tea.

Now in its fifth year, the event is taking place on July 6, 2014. The celebration is a modern-day interpretation of an village summer fête. Motivated by the unique perspective of the artist in nature, the event was crafted to be celebratory, informative and inspirational. Guests will enjoy storytelling, music, ephemeral art installations, garden tours, roving characters, a giant labyrinth, a farmers’ market and a wildly colourful tea party, with hats and hilarity. Come wearing your finest tea time attire and be prepared to have fun.

If you haven’t been to Colony Farm, this is a great chance to check this fabulous park out. Its riverfront location is home to a wide variety of plant, insect, bird and animal species. Intersected by the Coquitlam River and near the banks of the Fraser, the protected wildlife areas are brimming with natural beauty. Visit the large community garden, cycle along the bike trails, go for a hike or enjoy an al fresco meal in one of the picnic areas. It’s an oasis for nature-loving people of all ages.

There will be free – but limited – parking at Colony Farm on the day of the Midsummer Fête. Or take the free shuttle bus from Lougheed SkyTrain Station and skip the hassle.
