Early Summer in Coquitlam’s Inspiration Garden

Coquitlam’s Inspiration Garden is a great place to visit if you’d like to step up your gardening game, give your kids a chance to get up close and personal with where their food comes from, or just spend a little bit of time in nature. Located in the southeast corner of Town Centre Park, the garden is a fabulous local resource. There are lots of programs running next month. Today we’re sharing just a few.

Early Summer in the Inspiration Garden

Best Plants for the Shade

July 5, 2014, 10:00-11:00am or July 19, 2014, 2:00-3:00pm
Adults and youth aged 13+ will explore foliage, form, texture, and color tones of plants that can grow in the shade. Learn which fabulous plants can brighten up even the darkest corner of your garden!

Budding Gardeners

July 7-11, 2014, 9:00am-12:00pm
Kids aged 6-10 will enjoy fun-filled hands-on garden and nature related crafts and activities that will get them excited about gardening, nature and the environment.

Green Kids

July 7-11, 2014, 1:00-4:00pm
For little environmentalists aged 6-10. Kids will learn about composting and earth friendly gardening through fun interactive activities.

Culinary Herb Planters

July 12, 2014, 11:00am-12:00pm
Adults and youth aged 13+ can learn how to enhance the flavour in your meals with fresh herbs from your own herb planter garden. Make your own easy care herb planter. Great for condo balconies and small spaces.

Grow Your Own Hops!

July 12, 2014, 2:00-4:00pm or July 30, 2014, 6:00-8:00pm
Learn how to grow your own hops and the different varieties available to make specialty beers and ales. Great workshop for the home brew master!

Summer Harvest Remedies

July 19, 2014, 10:00am-12:30pm
Summer is the ideal time to boost your health with a variety of home remedies from your garden. Learn from Doug Moore, a certified Chinese Herbalist, how to use herbs from your own garden to improve your health.

Attracting Birds & Wildlife with Native Plants

July 26, 2014, 10:00-11:00am
Adults and youth aged 13+ can create a garden oasis and learn which native plants are best to grow to attract birds and desirable wildlife.
