What: Summer Evening Botany Walk

The skinny: Join Burke Mountain Naturalists on an evening amble among the flowers and plants of Colony Farm Park, guided by your fellow botanists and a handy guidebook. This walk meets first at the parking lot by the Community Gardens at the end of Colony Farm Road.

What: Luncheon with Thomas Mulcair
When:  Friday, May 23 from 11:15am – 1:30pm
Where:  Best Western Plus Inn and Convention Centre, North Road, Coquitlam (map)
The skinny:  Presented by the Tri Cities Chamber of Commerce, an opportunity to hear from the Leader of the Official Opposition as you nibble your buns and tuck into a salad or two. Registration required ($40 for members; $50 for non-members; plus GST).

What: Mossom Hatchery Trivia Night Fundraiser
When:  Friday, May 23 from 7:00pm
Where:  Centennial High School (map)
The skinny: Raising fund for the fishy folk tonight with a trivia quiz fundraiser tackling the rebuild effort for the burnt-out hatchery building. MP Fin Donnelly MCs quite appropriately, and team ($120 per team of six, $50 for students; individuals $25, students $10) battle it out for friendly IQ one-upmanship. May the best grey matter win, and also the fish.

What: Alpha Yaya Diallo

The skinny:  Dextrous and fluid – two of the words describing award-winning guitarist and singer Alpha Yaya Diallo who tonight graces the Evergreen stage with music from West Africa and hints of the Caribbean. Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors and $15 for students.

What: Variety Fundraiser BBQ

Where: PriceSmart Foods, Pinetree and Lougheed Highway, Coquitlam (map)
The skinny: A BBQ by Vickie Ayers, Fundraising for Variety the Children’s Charity (repeats on Sunday June 22). In addition to the barbecue, she will be selling Variety T-shirts, gold heart pins, key chains & pens. Face painting for the children is by donation.
