Everyone Still Loves a Parade

If you were in the Tri-Cities last year, you may remember the year-long centennial celebrations that marked 2013 in Port Coquitlam and Port Moody. One of the highlights of the big 1-0-0 in Port Moody was the parade. It had been more than 30 years since a parade had been held in Port Moody, but it was a hit. It was such a hit, in fact, that the parade is back for 2014. The parade will follow the same route as in 2013: Murray Street from Ioco Road to Rocky Point Park. The parade is scheduled to start at 11:00am on Saturday, June 21, 2014. You’re invited to take part as a participant, volunteer or spectator.

If you want to help make the 2014 parade a success, but you’re not looking to march, then volunteering may be the best fit for you. The city is looking for volunteers to join the organizing committee as well as volunteers to help out on the day of the event. If this sounds like the kind of thing you’d really enjoy, register now with the online Parade Volunteer Registration Form.

Is taking part in a parade your idea of a great time? If so, you’ll be glad to hear that parade participant registration is now open. There are some rules and regulations you should familiarize yourself with before you sign up, though – check out the Guidelines and Regulations for more details. If you’ve read all the guidelines and you’re still gung-ho, complete the online Parade Participant Registration Form.

There are a couple of other ways to take part – especially for the younger members of the Port Moody community. Port Moody residents aged 8-13 years are invited to enter the Design Your Port Moody Poster contest. Show off your creative side and share what Port Moody means to you. The six winning students will be parade champions, carrying the parade banner and leading the parade to Rocky Point Park. The contest runs from May 24 – June 10, 2014, so it’s time to start designing!

The Port Moody Public Library is also giving local residents a chance to be part of the parade with the Parade Craft Event. Stop by the ParkLane room between 10:00am and 2:00pm on Saturday, May 31, 2014. Show your reading spirit and make a fun craft to bring to the Port Moody Parade. Kids six and up can also register to dress as their favourite character and walk with the library in the parade on June 21, 2014.

See you at the parade!
