What: Youth Week
When:  Thursday, May 1 to May 9
Where: Tri Cities
The skinny: Youth Week recognises the positive impact that youth in our communities make each year. Check out the City of Coquitlam and the City of Port Moody for special events, ranging from a mini Olympics to a Spring Youth Dance to join in the celebrations.

What: Art and Arthritis with Otto Kamensek
When:  Thursday, May 1 from 7:00 – 9:00pm
Where:  Port Moody Arts Centre, 2425 St. John’s Street (map)
The skinny:  Ceramics artist-in-residence Otto Kamensek talks about his experience with art, chronic health problems and dealing with frustration. This talk is in conjunction with his amazing solo exhibition currently on show at the Arts Centre (well worth a visit). Sometimes words cannot convey the depth of human experience – Otto’s very personally inspired sculptures instantly move the viewer from observation into understanding. What:  Greg Drummond and David Newberry Live in Concert
When:  Friday, May 2 from 7:00 – 11:00pm
Where:  Inlet Theatre, Port Moody Civic Centre, 100 Newport Drive (map)
The skinny:  An evening of delicious folk rock, delicious craft beer, delicious music and brand new songs to kick off the fundraiser to get Greg’s album on the pressing decks.  Tickets $20, online.

What: Dogwood Garden Club Plant Sale

The skinny:  All the fun of the salmonid at this popular local event, complete with fish releasing and Bobs and Lolo performing, though not necessarily in that order. Celebrate your west coast cool and do your bit for the environment.

What: 12th Annual Hike for Hospice
When:  Sunday, May 4 from 9:00am – 12:00pm
Where:  Port Moody Rec Centre, 300 Ioco Road (map)
The skinny:  Ramble, wander, meander, hop, skip, spin or trudge – whatever mode of bipedalism (quadrupedalism if you bring the pets) you desire is most welcome at this annual fundraiser for the Crossroads Hospice Society. Enter as an individual or as a team – $10 per person or $25 per team.

What: Kids Swap Meet

The skinny: Neither the place for kids to exchange their parents nor for parents to trade their offspring for better-behaved models, the annual swap meet is a good place to declutter or restock as per your family needs. Reduce reuse recycle … clothes, equipment and so on. Free admission. All ages.
