Featuring a look back at last year and the years gone by, this week slowly eases residents into 2014. Why not make a resolution, a late one at that, to get more arty this year? Whether it’s taking classes, cheering on youthful talent or helping with fundraising efforts, there are plenty of ways you can support the arts in the area this week.

What: Heritage Evening: Tracks in Time
When:  Thursday, January 23 from 7:00pm
Where:   Community Room, Leigh Square Community Arts Village (map)
The skinny:   Join Jim Miller from Port Moody Museum in a presentation of last year’s centennial blockbuster publication, Tracks in Time. Learn about Port Moody’s first 100 years, take a ride down the main streets when they were just dirt tracks (as they are occasionally if you’re anywhere near Evergreen Line Construction) and take a peek at the hexapus. All thrills, all the time.

What: Port Moody Arts Centre Fundraising Gala: Art4U
When:  Saturday, January 25 from 6:00 – 10:00pm
Where:   Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club, 3251 Plateau Boulevard (map)
The skinny:   Another way to celebrate Robbie Burns Day in the Tri Cities with this gala fundraiser for the Port Moody Arts Centre’s Expansion Project as they quite literally move house. Live art demos, auctions, and Dawn Chubai – an evening of excitement awaits, and it’s all for a good cause. Tickets are $150 per person and available from the Arts Centre.

What:  Family Day at Place des Arts
When:  Sunday, January 26 from 1:30 – 3:30pm
Where:  Place des Arts, 1120 Brunette Avenue (map)
The skinny:  This is where families in the Tri Cities get arty this weekend. Be prepared for drop-in workshops, art activities and four amazing exhibitions to delight, inspire and enthrall as Place des Arts showcases its amazing array of instructional talent. Admission is by donation; reserve your spot by calling the box office.

What: Emerging Talent Festival at Evergreen Cultural Centre
 Sunday, January 26 from 2:00 – 7:00pm
Where:   Evergreen Cultural Centre, 1205 Pinetree Way (map)
The skinny:   Every year this show simply blows the socks off me, with an incredible array of talent by SD43 high school students. Today is the exhibition opening reception as well as Film Festival screenings by Teens @ Evergreen and live theatre performances. Make space in your diary – if your kids are artistically inclined, this is an afternoon family trip you should be making (annually) to show them what is possible. Feed their dreams. Enjoy.

What: Driving Miss Daisy

The skinny:   Evergreen hosts the Arts Club on Tour production of Alfred Uhry’s Driving Miss Daisy. The tale of friendship against convention runs for five evenings and a matinee so go see it! Tickets: Adult $39 | Senior (65+) $30 | Student $15

What: Play and Learn at Coquitlam Centre
When:  Wednesday, January 29 from 5:30 – 7:30pm
Where: Coquitlam Centre Mall (map)
The skinny: Play and Learn events take place on the last Wednesday of the month on the lower level of the mall in front of The Bay. This month’s theme is Family Literacy – storytimes, games, songs and crafts presented by Coquitlam Library to delight families. Admission free; drop in.
