Hauntingly beautiful music can produce all kinds of different emotional and physiological responses in listeners. Hairs rise up on the neck and arms, we’re overcome with emotion or filled with an explosion of creative energy and inspiration. Sensory Sound Lounge is a new 2014 experiential and intimate music series presented by Leigh Square Community Arts Village in Port Coquitlam. The event features professional musicians from across Metro Vancouver. This series is about offering performances that provide active experiences to heighten the audience members’ senses.

Artists are also encouraged to bring sketch books, easels and art supplies to use these evenings as an open art studio in a unique, inspiring environment.

Experience calming Avant-Folk and Canadiana style, soothing Folk sound, and cascading melodies of intertwining music genres like jazz and soul in a new and exciting way at Sensory Sound Lounge.

Skye Wallace works to compile stark elements of the Canadian landscape into a musical archive. Inspired by historical non-fiction and field recordings, her songs are stories hidden in plain sight. The resulting sound is melodic, gritty, and orchestral. Expect classical string pieces, samples of nature, the grunge-folk movement, and for her to open up with raw, no-holds-barred storytelling.

The Sons of Granville combine the ferocious finger style guitar of Matthew Lennox with the crazy classical playing of Thomas Beckman and the blazing fast rhythms of Jarrett Plett. Together, their output is a synergistic sound that is at once passionate, ambient and elegant. Their sound is influenced by classical, rock, Spanish/gypsy, folk and Irish ballads.

Les Finnigan has independently released seven solo acoustic guitar CDs, two live concert DVDs, has received a Canadian Folk Music Award nomination for Best Instrumentalist and a Western Canadian Music Award nomination for Outstanding Instrumental Recording. His compositions combine techniques, standard and alternate tunings, hybrid picking (finger-style and flat-picking), to create music that is artistic, thought provoking, and rich with melodic motifs.

Pacific Sound Collective is a six piece instrumental band including some of the top musicians from Vancouver’s jazz, classical, hip-hop and soul scenes. The music of Pacific Sound Collective draws inspiration from the rich orchestrations of David Axelrod and Isaac Hayes, the hip beats of J Dilla and Madlib, the soulful grooves of The Menahan Street Band and El Michels Affair, and the complex syncopations of Fela Kuti and Tony Allen. Distill these influences through a unique west coast perspective and you have an evocative sound landscape that makes for a truly memorable live experience.
