Light the Hall

Christmas in Leigh Square Annual Lighting

November 30, 2013, 1:00-4:30pm
Celebrate the spirit of community and the start of the holiday season. Families can visit Santa for photos, take part in art making and listen to holiday tunes before the Annual Lighting event. Leigh Square Community Arts Village will showcase a unique mobile installation of floating doves in the Sculpture yard. You can add to the installation by making a holiday wishing dove or star and create a lantern to take home! Join the mayor at the end of the afternoon as he “flicks” the switch and presents the debut of the holiday season through the illumination of magical Christmas lights. Everyone is welcome at this free event

Suter Brook Tree Lighting

December 5, 2013
Few local events are as enigmatic as those held at Suter Brook. Their website isn’t exactly forthcoming, and their Facebook page is spotty at best. We typically get our information about events when we happen to be shopping at the Thrifty’s located there. All the same, this annual event is a local favourite, featuring sleigh rides, a choir, hot beverages and snacks, Christmas craft making and of course a giant Christmas tree. We have it on good authority that this year’s lighting is planned for December 5. Typically, it runs from 6:00-9:00pm, but we’ll update the time when we receive more specific information.

A Lantern Affair

December 7, 2013, 4:30pm
A Lantern Affair is a free, all-ages holiday event featuring live music and song, arts activities, crafts, stories, home baking, a pottery show and sale, a multicultural celebration of light and an original performance by Place des Arts’ new Theatre Company. Make your own lantern and participate in the festive lantern ceremony. Visit with Father Christmas, bake up some heritage goodies, tick some items off your gift list and more, all in three hours! There will be a box for donations to the SHARE food and toy bank as well, so please consider bringing food or a new, unwrapped toy along with you.
