The arts are well catered for this week too, with two gallery openings and two creative open houses to inspire your inner artist. What: Helping Hands and Hearts In-Home Care Services

The skinny:   The latest trio of exhibitions in your friendly neighbourhood arts centre are based around community. Local drawing group, Suit E has painted portraits of community members to celebrate the city’s Centennial while Korean pottery group, Clay For You highlights its country’s rich traditions. The Arts centre Open Clay Studio shares its collective passion and delight in the magical workings of ceramics in That’s Not What I put in the Kiln! What:  Ignite! … an affair with art – adult open house at Place des Arts

The skinny:  Adults! Come out and play, with paints, fibre, pencils and more. Place des Arts invites you to get in touch with your inner creative spirit in their annual open house for the grown ups. Sip a complimentary glass of wine as you find out more about the classes offered and meet the teachers. This is an excellent way to take that first step to reclaiming your creative spirit. The skinny: A tradition in the Tri Cities, heralding that summer is so yesterday and Hallowe’en is nigh. Celebrate the morning mistiness and the darker evenings in this scare-a-minute garden-centre-gone-astray setting. A haunted train, pumpkin patch and ghoulish delights await the brave – paid rides and free kids’ activities including a Jungle Gym await the less-so. What: Port Moody Film Society: The Master

The skinny:  Port Moody Film Society presents Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix in the brilliant “build-a-cult” exploration of a mythical modern faith-based organization. Disillusionment by the bucket-load. Tickets are available after 6.45pm on the night ($5 membership; $5 per film).

What: Ruben’s Throwdown: Community Crossfit Competition

The skinny: A fun family day and crossfit competition, where you can dunk the Mayor in support of local charity, Ruben’s Shoes. Participants will compete in teams of four. Donations and competitors most welcome, and bring the family for face painting, Rocky Point Ice Cream, prizes and the dunking. Giving to charity was never such fun 🙂

The skinny:  Riverview’s annual Treefest for the whole family. Free admission to wander through the arboretum, or take in a heritage tour of the site ($2 admission). What: Terry Fox Run in the Tri Cities

Where: Tri Cities
The skinny: No entry fee – no minimum donation – just take part and keep the dream alive. Local run sites will give you all the information for the Coquitlam, Anmore and Port Moody events. And don’t forget the hometown run taking place from Hyde Creek Rec Centre in Port Coquitlam. All you need to do is cover the route, any way you can.

What: Unreal: Evergreen Cultural Centre Gallery Exhibition and Workshop

The skinny:   Join Evergreen for a two-hour collage workshop and then stay on for the exhibition opening reception. The exhibition, Unreal, explores the artist’s journey along the edges of reality, tripping into fantasy and the strange. The workshop earlier in the afternoon explores dreams, emptions and psychology while participants learn about surrealism and its history with a professional artist. What: Life Drawing in the Gallery
