Drop-In Programs at Leigh Square

Sometimes registered classes are too much commitment. If you’d like to freedom to attend a program when you’re free, and stay home when you’re not, a drop-in is a great alternative. This week Leighsure Time Drop-In programs have returned to Leigh Square Community Arts Village in Port Coquitlam. You’ll find new movies, activities and talks. The drop-in board game days, writers group and youth graphic novelists group are also back. This is your chance to try something new without having to commit to classes in advance. It’s also a great way to meet and connect with people who share your interest.

Here’s what’s on tap:

Movie Night

Drop-in movie nights are $4 per person. Check out Paranorman at 7:00pm on October 17, 2013. If you’d like even more fun drop by early at 6:00pm for a skeleton scavenger hunt and pumpkin painting. You can also see Man of Steel at 7:00pm on November 14, 2013. This evening features a brief discussion on the history of Superman and the significance of superheroes in contemporary society prior to the screening.

Writers’ Night

Every other Thursday, from September 26 – November 28, 2013, writers can stop by Leigh Square from 5:30-6:30pm. Bring a mug of tea or coffee and a notebook or laptop. You’ll swap stories, chat, read and work. The self-directed drop in group is dedicated to socializing local writers and sharing criticism on all written work including scripts, poetry, novels, short stories, comics, and lyrics. Plus it’s free!

The Comic Shop Youth Drop-In

On Mondays from September 23 – November 25, 2013, youth aged 13-18 can stop by Leigh Square between 4:00 and 5:30pm. This self-directed drop-in program is designed to encourage youth interested in illustration and storytelling to create their own comic. From strips to pages, romances to horrors, heroes to real people, The Comic Shop is a great way to learn about everything that goes into a good work of graphic literature. Come by to work on your own personal comic project while meeting new youth interested in the comic medium. Bonus points – it’s free and supplies will be provided!

Board Game Day

Drop by the Leigh Square Gathering Place every Tuesday from September 24 – November 26, 2013 between 3:30 and 5:30pm for a fun afternoon of Scrabble, Chess, Monopoly, Jenga and other games. With a variety of board games available at Leigh Square, we invite you to bring friends and family to this community get-together. All ages welcome! No pre-registration necessary, just drop by to enjoy an afternoon of traditional gaming. Plus it’s free!

Note that, while children under the age of 13 are welcome to participate in the all ages programs, a parent or guardian must provide supervision. To get in on the drop-in fun either stop by on the day of the program or pre-register at www.experienceit.ca or 604.927.8400.
