What:  The 2nd Annual Port Moody Youth Arts Festival
When:  Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27 from 6:00 – 10:00pm
Where:  Inlet Theatre, Port Moody Civic Centre, 100 Newport Drive (map)
The skinny:   Port Moody Arts Centre is proud to present an outstanding crop of youth talent and inspiration for your delight, your inspiration  and your entertainment. For two nights only (two nights!) watch rock and jazz bands, dramatic performances and dance, all by performers 13-18 years old. Admission is by donation; door prizes galore; Rocky Point Ice Cream’s Scooper Truck will be on site, Friday 26 July from 5:30pm, with $1 from each sale going to Youth Arts Festival fundraising.

What: Cinema Under the Stars: Wreck It Ralph
When:  Friday, July 26 from 9:00 – 10:30pm
Where: Sun Valley Park, 3700 Hamilton Stree, Port Coquitlam (map)
The skinny:  Cool animated mix-up of old-style arcade games coming alive after hours and dealing with personality hopes and dreams. My favourite part?  … 8-bit FixIt Felix falling in love with the foxy commando captain and crooning about how hi-definition her skin is. All the better for viewing on the 26-foot outdoor screen set up by G&F Financial Group in the park at dusk. Bring blankets and camp chairs. Free.

What: Theatrix presents Fame! Jr
When:  
Saturday, July 27 from 1:00 – 3:00, and 7:00 – 9:00pm
Where:   Evergreen Cultural Centre, 1205 Pinetree Way (map)
The skinny:   Theatrix Youtheatre presents a double bill comprising The Golden Rule, about a one-winged angel in search of her missing appendage, and Fame Jr., about the famed NY School of Performing Arts. What: Teen Comedy Improv Camp with Second Storey Theatre
When:  Monday, July 29 to August 2nd, from 9:00am – 4:00pm
Where: 201-2550 Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam (map)
The skinny:   Learn how to give other peoples’ chuckle muscles a good workout and develop your ‘dealing with the parents’ skills in this week-long improv camp. Ages 13-16 | $225 |final performance on August 2nd (3:00 to 4:00pm) is open to your nearest and dearest.

What: Sharing and Celebrating Our Unique Cultures
When:  Wednesday, July 31 from 11:00am – 3:00pm

The skinny:  Billed as a multi-cultural celebration for the family, this event features stage performances, food samples, interactive and static displays, door prizes … and it’s free.

What: Play and Learn at Coquitlam Centre

The skinny:  This is definitely worth a mention – storytimes, crafts, literacy, songs in the company of Coquitlam Public Library outreach and in the luxury of icy-cold air conditioning. July’s theme is Books, Books and more Books so bring the whole family. Free event | no registration required | meets on the lower level in front of the Bay.
