Things might get a little goofy this weekend in the Tri-Cities with “Weird Al” Yankovic in town.  So grab your Hawaiian shirt, frizz out that hair and tap into your inner goofiness.  Or if that’s not your thing, there are other events happening that will entertain you as well, with no Hawaiian shirt required!  Music, theatre, fitness, fundraisers…the Tri-Cities has it all this week!

What:  Tri-Cities Healthy Kids Fair
When:  Thursday, April 25 from 9:30am-12:30pm
Where:  Port Moody Recreation Centre, 300 Ioco Road (map)
The skinny:  Community organizations will be available to provide parents of tots and preschoolers with information on safety, health, literacy, awareness, recreation and other community programs. This is the first time this event is being held in Port Moody and it is for families with Children 0-6 years.  Admission is free.

What:  Ascension – Presented by Goliath Performing Arts
When:  Wednesday to Saturday, April 24-27 from 7:00-10:00pm
Where:  Inlet Theatre, 100 Newport Drive (map)
The skinny:  After last year’s successful run with the Festival of Masks, Goliath Performing Arts is returning with another opportunity for local youth to showcase their talent and skill. The lineup is expansive, drawing in musicians, filmmakers, actors and dancers in what is sure to be another set of amazing performances. Ticket prices are $10 per night, or festival pass is available for $30, allowing you to see all four performance nights.

What:  Woman in Mind
When:  Thursday to Saturday, April 25-27 at 8:00pm and Sunday, April 28 at 2:00pm

The skinny:  Stage 43 presents this mesmerizing tale of a woman’s struggle with her imagination. After suffering a blow to the head, fantasy and reality collide as Susan, a middle-aged woman, finds herself caught between two versions of her family. Tickets: Adult $20 | Senior & Student $18.

What:  Crossroads Coffeehouse – Pam Goessaert
When:  Friday, April 26 from 7:30-10:00pm

The skinny: “Unplugged at the Crossroads Hospice Coffeehouse” series is set in a casual atmosphere centered on acoustical performances from local musicians featuring a wide range of musical genres, all in an effort to  help raise funds and awareness for the Crossroads Inlet Centre Hospice. This week’s Feature Performer: Pam Goessaert – colours, textures, tapestries, light, dark, big, small, new, old, loud and quiet – and full of stories. Pam’s magnificent garden and her art is like that – and so too is her music. We get Pam relatively straight up this time – more intimate, more relaxed and free because she has more time for music! What:  MS Walk
When:  Sunday, April 28 from 10:00am-1:00pm
Where:  Rocky Point Park (map)
The skinny:  Beautiful Rocky Point Park will once again be the site of the Scotiabank MS Walk.  Short Route Walkers will follow a 2 km route along Burrard Inlet, while Long Route Walkers take a longer 5 km route up to Old Orchard Park and back.  Back at the finish area, Walkers can enjoy snacks and refreshments, music, family-friendly activities and great company!  Bring wheelchairs, scooters or strollers!  This route is accessible to everyone.  Register in advance.

What:  Magnolia Tree Tour
When:  Sunday, April 28 from 1:00-3:00pm
Where:  Riverview Hospital, 2601 Lougheed Highway (map)
The skinny:  Go on a Magnolia Tree Tour!  Walks are usually led by a volunteer arborist, and last about two hours, depending on weather and walkers’ preference. Dress for the weather, and wear comfy shoes or boots. Children are always welcome. Dogs must be on ‘leash’. Meet for walks at Henry Esson Young (HEY) Building. Rain or shine. DONATIONS WELCOME

What:  Have a Go Day

The skinny:  EVERYONE Is Welcome – Spring Challenge your wheelchair skills and improve your fitness in a fun recreational environment! You will meet and learn from some of BC’s top Wheelchair athletes! You will have the opportunity to try various sports like tennis, rugby and basketball. Bring your friends and family out to join, everyone is welcome! No experience is necessary. Equipment is provided. Cost: Free Anyone can preregister for this program or simply arrive on the day.
