ArtsConnect is presenting their 14th Annual ArtWalk on Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14, 2013 at venues throughout Port Moody. The walk runs from 12:00-5:00pm each day, and the event is free. You’re also invited to attend the Opening Reception on Friday, April 12 from 6:30-8:30pm at the Old Mill Boathouse. Artists will be in attendance.
The ArtWalk is one of ArtsConnect’s signature events. It’s a self-guided tour through more than 20 artists’ studios and other local venues. The event features the work of over 50 local artists, in media ranging from paintings to photography, pottery to glass, and wood to fibre arts. This is a chance to meet local artists, see their work up close, and maybe pick up a truly original piece (or three). While the ArtWalk happens in Port Moody, the artists come from around the Tri-Cities, making this a fabulous opportunity to get involved in, and support, the local art scene.
This year they’re kicking things up a notch by adding a music festival to the traditional studio tour. Stay tuned to their website at www.artsconnect.ca to find out more about that.
Be prepared to take your time on the ArtWalk. Remember to relax and enjoy yourself, as this event happens only once a year! With all those venues it’s a challenge to visit them all in two days. Find what tickles your fancy and plan your route around those studios. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, expand your horizons and experience some art forms and venues that you haven’t seen before. The world’s your oyster when you’re art walking.
ArtsConnect engages the community with a variety of innovative events. In addition to the ArtWalk, the group also organizes PechaKucha Night Coquitlam. Volume 10 is a special ArtWalk edition, happening on April 2, 2013 at Evergreen Cultural Centre. The evening features local people sharing inspirational stories about their passion. Part performance, part networking event, and completely original, PechaKucha provides a glimpse into the lives of local creatives and no doubt you’ll leave with a new sense of what’s happening here in the Tri-Cities. Tickets are a steal at $12 each, and you can get yours by calling 604.927.6555.
