Remember heading to the bank in the 80s on a Friday afternoon? People cashing actual paychecks to get actual cash to go spend on actual booze in actual bars. The only thing to keep you occupied during that long wait was the ability to smoke a cigarette and have a convenient ashtray right in the velvet rope stand. Increasingly, experiences like this have been replaced with online services. The City of Port Moody has expanded that with the launch of myPortMoody. The site allows Port Moody residents to quickly and easily access all of their tax notices, utility bills, dog licences and business licences. Since the City took the ashtrays out of the waiting areas long ago, this is a very positive step.

Turns out the Coquitlam School District is about $7.5 million short this year. Declining enrolment and international student revenue was less than expected. I have a feeling that craft time in my child’s classroom may soon involve making knockoff handbags to sell at flea markets.
