Garden Events: Rose Show, Art in the Garden and Pride of PoCo

We’re finally getting some summer weather here in the Tri-Cities, and gardens throughout the region are soaking up some sun. If you have a soft spot in your heart for beautiful green spaces, you may want to check out these three events happening in our own backyard.

Rose Show and Festival 2012

The Fraser Pacific Rose Society is presenting their annual Rose Show and Festival at Coquitlam’s Dogwood Pavilion on Saturday, July 7, 2012 from 1:00-5:00pm and Sunday, July 8, 2012 from 11:00am-4:00pm. This year’s theme is A Diamond Jubilee Celebration with Roses. See hundreds of roses in vases, bowls, and baskets. Artistic categories will feature floral arrangements by some of BC’s leading floral designers on display along with exhibits in the newest show category – photography. As well, the public is invited to help judge the People’s Choice Awards for most fragrant rose, best floral design and best commercial exhibitor. Roses will be for sale throughout the festival and at the end of the show all the exhibit cut roses will be available for purchase. Floral theme crafters will also be on site offering unique one of a kind items with partial donations going to support the show. Tickets are $3.00 at the door, and kids get in free when accompanied by a paying adult.

Pride of PoCo Garden Awards

Port Coquitlam prides itself on being a beautiful city. Much of the credit goes to the city’s residents, who create beautiful gardens around their homes and businesses. The PoCo Garden Club and the City of Port Coquitlam encourage greater and more imaginative use of flowers and other plants to make the community even more beautiful. Each year, the Pride of PoCo Garden Awards recognize those who beautify their community through the use of plants, flowers and other landscape materials. If you know a Port Coquitlam resident or business who is doing their part to make Port Coquitlam even more beautiful, you can nominate them for a Pride of PoCo Garden Award. The nominating deadline has been extended until July 13, 2012, so there’s still time. Check out the Pride of PoCo website for full details.
