What’s Up in the Tri-Cities: Canada Day Celebrations!

This week we’ve got Canada Day events galore, not just on Canada Day itself but there are many that are a few days long. There is also the The Rollin Colons Charity Golf Tournament, Bowling for Business and a few great performing arts events. Enjoy!

What: Port Coquitlam Farmers Market
When: Thursday, June 28 at 3:00 – 7:00pm
Where: Leigh Square Community Arts Village [map]
The skinny: Leigh Square Artisans and Try It, You’ll Like It table – a chance to taste something new. This is a lively afternoon farmers’ market bringing freshly picked vegetables and fruit from nearby farms into the downtown. Delicious sweets and savouries are available from many prepared food vendors. Linger awhile and enjoy the music of local young and not-so-young musicians while you have a light supper from Didi’s Greek Pita (try the chicken souvlaki!) and the best coffee ever from Vango Espresso.

What: Bowling for Business

What: What’s Eating You?

The skinny: When people grow plants for food, some of those plants end up being eaten by pests–insects that compete with us for our food crops. The good news is that there are predators that feed on these pests. Biological control provides a sustainable, ecologically-based alternative to the use of chemical pesticides for pest management.

What: The King Who Wouldn’t Sing

The skinny: Who we are: The mission of the Young Peoples’ Opera Society is to provide opportunities for children and youth to learn about, participate in and sing Opera at a community level. In addition to providing family entertainment, YPOS teaches the performers classical opera skills, including voice, drama and dance. Productions revolve around family and community, creating inter-generational teamwork.

What: Canada Day Celebration
When: Saturday, June 30-July 2 from 11:00am-4:00pm
Where: Port Moody Station Museum [map]
The skinny:  Come to the Port Moody Station Museum Canada Day weekend for a variety of family activities relating to the feature exhibit Chinese Legacies. Visitors will enjoy a railway scavenger hunt, spike driving, and lantern making throughout the weekend.  On July 1, the Greater Vancouver Garden Railway Club will display their G-scale model trains, including working model steam engines.

What: Grand Opening of Coast Pacific Wire & Alarms

What: Coquitlam Celebrates Canada Day

Where: Lafarge Lake & Evergreen Cultural Centre Coquitlam [map]
The skinny: Something for all ages including live performances at the Coquitlam Stage, Evergreen Stage & the Water Stage Guests will have fun interacting and exploring the Adventure Village, the Artisan Village, the Community Village and the Cultural Village and will enjoy sampling the “Taste of Coquitlam” and dining on the Lafarge Lake patio. The highlight of the day will be a spectacular “Light up the Night” theatrical experience over the lake at dusk.
