This week features lots of great events to “spring” into the season! The popular ArtWalk is back as well as the Port Moody’s City-Wide Garage Sale to help you get a jump on your spring cleaning. Enjoy!

What: Annual Garbäge Fashion Show
When: Thursday, April 19 from 7:00 – 9:00pm
Where: Heritage Woods Secondary [map]
The skinny: The Heritage Woods Secondary will be hosting the annual Garbäge Fashion Show.. The fashion show showcases dresses made out of recycled materials, made by high school students from SD43.The purpose of the fashion show is to raise environmental awareness amidst Sd43′s high schools. During the fashion show there is an ongoing silent auction as well as raffle draws.

What: Ten Lost Years

The skinny: Based on the book by oral historian and best-selling author Barry Broadfoot, Ten Lost Years 1929 – 1939: Memories of Canadians Who Survived The Depression, sold more than 300,000 copies. In the 1970’s, Broadfoot travelled across the country interviewing people and recording their stories. The resulting memories make up the show, along with songs and a large helping of humour.

What: Tea on the Train

The skinny: This year the Port Moody Station Museum celebrates the ArtsConnect Artwalk with tea and treats on our train car. The Museum will be one of 21 stops on the Artwalk, showcasing the work of four different artists including painter Vicki Allesia, photographer Jenna Knight, painter Anne Ridsdale Mott, and painter Arcadia Robinson. In addition to enjoying the talent of these local artists, visitors can have a relaxing break on our 1920s railcar. We will be offering a variety of teas, coffee, juice and flavoured scones courtesy of Cobs Bread Suter Brook. No reservations needed.

What: Get Active in April Fundraiser

The skinny: Join us for four fitness classes in April – get fit, have fun, and help the preschool raise funds for needed projects. Admission is $10 per class or $36 if registered for all four classes in advance. Everyone welcome – help us fill the gym! The classes will be 45 minutes in length and suitable for all abilities.

What: Bear Essentials Seminar

The skinny: Conservation Officers in BC had to kill over 13 black bears in the Tri-Cities last year because of real or perceived threats to human safety. Most of these bears came into conflict with people because they were allowed to access non-natural food sources. Join us to learn how best to keep black bears in the forest.
