Port Coquitlam May Day Festival 2012

The City of Port Coquitlam has been celebrating its May Day Festival since 1923. The celebration features more than a week of fun-filled activities including outdoor concerts, community showcases, may pole dancing, amusement rides and, of course, the May Day Rotary Parade. It’s PoCo’s annual big bash, and it’s all kicking off this Friday, May 4, 2012.

Here are some highlights of the 2012 May Day Festival that you won’t want to miss:

Youth Week Carnival

Friday, May 4, 2012 from 3:00-6:00pm
Riverside Secondary School
This event will feature carnival games and activities. For youth, by youth!

May Day Opening Ceremony

Friday, May 4, 2012 at 7:30pm
Port Coquitlam Recreation Complex
Installation of the royal party and traditional may pole dancing performed by local school children.

Art Focus May Day Art Show

Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6, 2012 from 11:00am-4:30pm
Leigh Square Community Arts Village
A collective of Tri-Cities artists display a wide range of original works of art in a variety of media.

May Day Dance – Dancing Through the Decades

Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 8:00pm-Midnight
Wilson Centre
Come dressed in the style of your favourite era. Adults only, cash bar, door prizes. Tickets available at the Outlet, Caydance Studios or www.pocoheritage.org.

Youth Skateboard Jam

Sunday, May 6, 2012 from 12:00-4:00pm
RailSide Skate Park
Open to skaters of all skill levels. Learn some tricks and tips from the pros, and skate while listening to some great music.

Shooting Star Amusement Rides

Friday, May 11 – Sunday, May 13, 2012
Port Coquitlam Recreation Complex – Parking Lot
Free rides for all mothers with a paying child on Mother’s Day.

Port Coquitlam Rotary May Day Parade

Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 11:00am
Downtown Port Coquitlam
This annual parade will feature excitement and fun for the whole family with music, marching bands, floats, and many laughs.

Leigh Square Community Block Party

Saturday, May 12, 2012 all day
Leigh Square
Bring your familyfor the Community Block Party, which kicks off with a concert performance by Whiskey Jane and includes the May Day Marketplace, a community showcase, a FREE children’s carnival, entertainment and more.

Mother’s Day at Lions Park

Sunday, May 13, 2012
Lions Park
The park will be filled with many free family activities. Pick up your passport at the park entrance. Completed passports will be entered into a draw for some fabulous prizes. Free flowers for mothers.
