Under the Christmas Tree: Holiday Improv with table23

Table 23 Under the Christmas Tree

This year you can celebrate the holiday season by watching some comedy while helping bring goodwill to all. The Tri-Cities based improv group, table23 comedy is putting on their annual show, Under the Christmas Tree in support of needy families over the holidays. This year they present two holiday comedy shows at Second Storey Theatre – a kids show and an evening show – to ensure that everyone can share in the laughs.

“The holiday season is a particularly difficult time for many families, and this year the need for support is even greater,” says table23 veteran Brad Rossington. “SHARE expects to help 1800 families in the Tri-Cities this Christmas, so we want to help.” This year table23 is conducting a food drive – as well as donating all net proceeds from their holiday improv show – to SHARE Family Services.

Under the Christmas Tree mixes comedy, improvisation, and music. The show has been entertaining audiences at Second Storey Theatre for the past two years. “It has become a classic for people of all ages to come and see – they like seeing how it changes from year to year,” says Second Storey Theatre artistic director, Graham Myers.

This year parents can bring their kids to the matinee show, which is tailored especially for them. A fully improvised and interactive show, kids get to talk with puppets, and help the performers sing songs and tell stories about Christmastime. The evening show (PG) presents a combination of improvised comedy, music and sketch that is guaranteed to leave audiences laughing. “The show pokes fun at the Christmas season and everything that comes along with that – from carols and Santa Claus, to social issues and family gatherings,” says comedian Jennifer Pielak.

Under the Christmas Tree runs Fridays and Saturdays from December 2 – 17 at Second Storey Theatre [map]. The Kids Saturday Matinees are at 3:00pm on December 3, 10 and 17 only. he Evening Show is on Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00pm. Bring a food donation for table23’s Food Drive and you can enter into a draw for a season’s pass to Second Storey Theatre. Tickets are available at the door or can be reserved by emailing secondstoreytheatre@gmail.com.
