So much linky goodness, and one of the better videos of the week, so let’s get started!

City Caucus has a roundup of some of the off the beaten path stories coming out of the Union of BC Municipalities convention last week. Could someone explain to me why everyone is freaking out about BC Hydro Smart Meters? We haven’t seen this many bizarre conspiracy theories since the introduction of the social insurance number.

When the UBCM delegates aren’t worrying about the government reading our thoughts through the power grid, they were skeptical about online voting. Of course that’s just the Vancouver Sun headline. Basically in the story one guy is worried about hackers. Luckily Coquitlam Coun. Linda Reimer was one of the voices of reason. We’re a big believer in making voting more accessible. It’s a big part of why we started If we can bank online, surely we can vote online.

Curious about some of the housing developments that are looking to go ahead in Coquitlam? The Tri-City News has this roundup of developments going to public hearing on October 24th.

The City of Port Moody and the Port Moody Library have brand new websites. Big, big improvement over the last websites. If only they made sure the old links still worked, it would have been even better. Still some work to do on that end, but they look fantastic.

The 2011 Spirit of Coquitlam grants have been awarded, with $317,000 divvied up between 22 Coquitlam groups. Thanks for gambling everyone!

Coquitlam Councillor Selina Robinson has been campaigning on foot, and points out that Coquitlam has a long way to go to become walkable.

Place Des Arts Impromptu Fundraiser is on October 15th, with a few tickets still available. I’ll be there, will you?

Finally, the folks at Tri Cities TV saw a problem in our community, and it’s high time we became more “Mayor Aware”. Check out the video, it’s well worth it. Thanks to our local mayors for being good sports, and seriously, lock up your garbage everyone.
