Evergreen Family Series 2011/12

Evergreen Cultural Centre Family Series 2011/12 Coquitlam

The folks at Evergreen Cultural Centre are so excited, they can’t contain themselves! They promise that season’s lineup of family-friendly entertainment will have kids giggling at silly stories, gasping at death defying circus acts, hollering at delightful marionettes and singing arias along with opera singers.

Programming the family series is always a highlight for Evergreen’s Performing Arts Manager, David Mann. “It’s an opportunity for me to be a kid again,” said Mann. “When I attend the shows, I’m reminded of the thrill I felt when my parents took me to see live plays and concerts, starting at about the age of five. Kids today may be exposed to a lot of onscreen entertainment, but there is nothing as exciting as live performance – with real live people up there! Also, I’m amazed at the way these wonderful performers can entertain me and the other adults as well as the kids.”

This season’s offerings have tremendous entertainment value and will enchant the whole family:

  • At Nightfall by Sursaut Dance Company on November 13, 2011 is a crazy, tender, tipsy story about an overworked shoemaker who wanders out of his shop to discover the water forest―a dreamlike, nocturnal place occupied by tiny people who dance, turn, jump and frolic in their magical world.
  • Dianna David: Take a Closer Look on January 29, 2012 is a visually dynamic show about a young girl finding her way through a new school. Jam-packed with Hip Hop dancing, clowning, miming, shadow play, contact juggling, multimedia and a very important message.
  • Hansel & Gretel by Vancouver Opera in Schools happens on March 4, 2012. Vancouver Opera in Schools presents a darkly fantastic version of this classic tale that will especially appeal to fans of Harry Potter and Twilight.
  • The Bremen Town Musicians by the Maritime Marionettes on March 25, 2012 features masterful puppetry and the engaging storytelling of this famed folktale about an aging donkey who follows his dream to become a musician
  • Flyin’ Bob: Be the Circus on May 6, 2012 is a one-man, three ring circus filled with juggling, clowning, unicycling, acrobatics, wire walking, audience participation and comedy. An epic performance that will leave you breathless.
