Fundraiser for the Coquitlam Book Bus

Coquitlam Book Bus Fundraiser

The Coquitlam Public Library is a fabulous place. It offers books, of course. But you can also borrow e-books, DVDs, CDs, access free wi-fi, and a whole lot more. And its Book Bus brings library material and programs to people throughout Coquitlam. This allows people of all ages and income levels to access the library in their own neighbourhood, without having to travel. It currently visits the Tri-City Family Place on Thursdays from 10:30am – 1:00pm, and Cottonwood Park on Saturdays from 10:15am – 1:15pm.

As anyone who’s bought gas recently knows, fuel prices are currently very high. This means that the Book Bus needs additional funds to help it get around Coquitlam. Plus, sometimes grants and City support aren’t enough.

In order to support the excellent work that the Book Bus does in our community, Mayor Richard Stewart, Councillor Linda Reimer and Owen Coomer have organized a fundraiser. On Thursday, June 30 Richard Stewart will be behind the bar at the John B Neighbourhood Pub [map] from 6:00-7:00pm “serving” the community. Here’s your opportunity to meet the mayor one on one, talk to him about what’s happening in Coquitlam, and possibly stump him with your drink order while you’re at it. (Quck, how do you make a Singapore Sling?)

Tickets, which will get you a beverage and a burger, are available at the door for $15 – but it’s not necessary to buy the ticket to get into the bar. As well, all the gratuities will go towards the Book Bus. There will also be a 50/50 draw, and a DJ from 7:30pm until close. And Owen Coomer will also be behind the bar, donating his time in support of the library.
