It’s all about getting ready for the summer this week in the Tri-Cities: opening day at the Poco Farmer’s Market, gardening and outdoor workshops, a fishing derby plus tons of other great events and activities both indoors and out!

What: Port Coquitlam Farmers Market – Opening Day

The skinny: Celebration Day, Opening Day at the Market, 4pm  ceremonies, dignitaries and CAKE! The Port Coquitlam Farmers Market is held every Thursday from 3 to 7 pm from May 26 to September 15 in Leigh Square.  Along with wonderful fresh vegetables, fruit, baking and crafts there will be interesting and exciting events/themes every week.  There is always something for the children to do and market music to enjoy with coffee and exotic teas.

What: Good Riddance: Showing Clutter the Door

What: Neighbourhood Swap Meet at Glen Pine Pavilion

The skinny: One person’s junk is another person’s treasure. Load up the trunk of your car or your pick-up truck with items you no longer need and drive down to Glen Pine Pavilion. The skinny: The 3rd annual “Bands in the Park” event features Secondary and Middle School Concert Bands from across School District 43. Involving hundreds of young musicians, this wonderful, free event is organized by the Coquitlam Music Teachers’ Association to help promote music education. Feel free to bring a lawn chair, have a picnic, and come listen to some great band music!

What: Craig Ferguson

The skinny: Craig Ferguson entered the world of late night comedy following a diverse and eclectic career that encompasses stage, film and television. After several stints on the English comedy circuit, Ferguson brought his act to the US in 1995 to star with Marie Osmond and Betty White on the short-lived ABC sitcom, Maybe This Time. After the show ended, the network decided to add the talented Scotsman to The Drew Carey Show where he joined the cast in 1996 playing the role of “Nigel Wick” for eight seasons.

The skinny: The Como lake Fishing Derby is free to participate in and open to all Children under the age of sixteen. Hundreds of prizes are awarded each year for all sorts of catches, from the largest fish to the smallest fish or for the strangest catch of the day. The fishing derby attracts hundreds of Children each year and as the children are fishing the parents can enjoy a wonderful pancake breakfast cooked by the Coquitlam Kinsman Club.
