Port Coquitlam Farmers Market Opening

Port Coquitlam Farmer's Market

The Port Coquitlam Farmers Market is back in Leigh Square [map] this summer, and they’re opening their 2011 season this Thursday, May 26 from 3:00-7:00pm. Which, incidentally, are the hours that the market will be running every week at that location through September 15.

To celebrate opening day they will cut into their famous carrot cake (don’t worry, there’s enough for everyone to have a piece). The Felice Women’s Choir will entertain market-goers, along with students of Riverside Secondary School’s drumming group. And as if that weren’t enoughUrban Wood Fired Pizza will be on hand with delicious pizza for your late afternoon snack or dinner.

Along with wonderful fresh vegetables, fruit, baking and crafts there will be interesting and exciting events and themes every week. Some highlights include Kids’ Day on June 16, Art at the Market on June 30, Pirates’ Day on July 14, the Garlic Festival on August 25 and Doggie Days on September 1.

There is always something fun for the children to do, and market music to enjoy with coffee and exotic teas. Meet the people behind the foods and products, learn about their passions and support buying local!

If you really want to support local food, buy a new $10 Friend of the Market membership between May 26 and July 7 for a chance to win a $100 market shopping spree. The draw happens live at the market on July 7 at 5:00pm. Plus, you’ll be supporting the Haney Farmers Market Society in its work to provide you with direct access to food producers. Farmers markets stimulate and support the local economy, provide opportunities to inform and entertain, and support environmental sustainability.

So head down to the market and take it all in. For more information, visit www.haneyfarmersmarket.org.
