Youth Week in the Tri-Cities

May 1-7 is BC Youth Week. It’s a week of fun, interaction and celebration intending to build a strong connection between young people and their communities. The basic idea is this: Young people are important and need to be recognized in a constructive and positive manner. Their contributions need to be acknowledged and celebrated.

Here in the Tri-Cities a number of events are happening to mark Youth Week. “It is our job to showcase all the wonderful and positive things youth are doing in our community,” says Port Coquitlam Youth Coordinator, Russ Brummer. “Youth Week is that platform.”

Youth Week in Port Coquitlam will consist of a variety of different activities to get teens engaged, from Carnival games and ball hockey tournaments to mural painting and ping pong. Many events will be facilitated collaboratively with partner agencies including Wilson Centre, RCMP, PoCo FireHall, School District and the Ministry of Children Family Development.

The Tri-City R.E.A.C.H. Awards are a highlight of the week. The annual award ceremony honours youth, mentors and organizations for making Tri-Cities a youth friendly community.
