The Holiday Non-Events Post

This is the space that our weekly events post normally appears in. However, there really isn’t a whole lot to put here this week, since Christmas is just three days away. In fact, what are you doing reading this, shouldn’t you be out shopping or something? I know that I should be.

If you want a break from the mall scene, though, here are a few things that might be worth checking out:

  • Check out some holiday light displays. We went for a drive this weekend and saw some amazing lights. Check out our map and plan your own trip, or just watch this amazing video from Rae Street, in Port Coquitlam:

  • Go skating. Nothing says ‘winter’ like lacing up a pair of skates and hitting the ice. Most of the local rec centres have special holiday skates. Check out Port Coquitlam, Port Moody and Coquitlam for more details.
  • Drop by your library. While the kids are out of school, get them reading for fun. Or check out some books for yourself to read while you have time off. For holiday hours, visit Port Moody Public Library, Coquitlam Public Library and Terry Fox Library.
  • Get outside. There’s an old saying that goes something along the lines of, ‘there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing’. If everyone’s going stir crazy, why not visit a local park or take a walk and blow off some steam? Spending a little time in the great outdoors may be just the thing to help you get over that holiday stress.

However you spend this week, I hope it’s a good one. And I hope that you don’t have to spend much, or any, time at the mall.
