The last week of November is wrapping up, and the jingle jangle that accompanies the holiday season is in full swing. And if that doesn’t make your heart sing, there are some municipal open houses to choose from. Whether you enjoy local government or holiday lights, there’s something to tickle your fancy. Read on to find out what’s happening here in the V3H this week.

What: Glen Park Master Planning Open House
When: Thursday, November 25 from 5:00-8:00pm

The skinny: In order to meet the leisure and recreational needs of the community, the City of Coquitlam is undergoing a master planning process to revitalize Glen Park. The City is seeking input from area residents and neighbourhood organizations with an interest in this project. We invite you to join us at an Open House to share your thoughts.

What: Trip to Morocco: An Informative Journey

The skinny: Enjoy a tour of the ancient trading city of Marrakesh. Visit the coast fishing port of Essaouria with its Portuguese ramparts, crafts and unique street life. What: Purely Cabaret

The skinny: SHIFT Performing Arts Society is thrilled to bring award-winning and critically acclaimed chanteuse Lindsay Sutherland Boal, performing in her one-woman cabaret concert Purely Cabaret on November 25 and 27 at the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam. Lindsay has performed as a guest artist in Canada, China and the United Kingdom and with the Nova Scotia Symphony Orchestra, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Manitoba Opera and in the ensemble with the Vancouver Opera. This past summer, after a successful performance of Weimar cabaret songs in Weimar, Germany, Sutherland Boal wrote, directed, produced and starred in her own one-woman German cabaret show Purely Cabaret – a collection of songs from the Weimar Republic (1919 – 1933) which ran seventeen performances in Vancouver, Ottawa and Toronto.

What: A Touch of Brass and Friends: Quartet, Quintet, Tentet!

The skinny: A Touch of Brass is BC’s premiere brass quintet, entertaining audiences with terrific arrangements of classical and contemporary music. This time they are doubling the fun to include 10 top brass players on stage at once! Performing a wide range of works representing the past 400 years of musical history, selections range from Renaissance Master Giovanni Gabrieli’s intricate Canzona per Sonare to the champion of brass arrangements, Goff Richards’ challenging and fun Homage to the Noble Grape.

The skinny: Get a head start on your holidays and wish list! Leigh Square’s 3rd Annual Winter Artisans Fair returns to offer affordable, quality art and fine crafts and edibles. You’ll find that distinctive holiday gift for someone special! Bring out the whole family to enjoy arts, crafts, live music by local emerging musicians, yummy treats and the annual Lighting of Leigh Square on the Saturday and of course – a visit from Santa! There are over 30 artisans in the Fair. This year features a variety of visual artists, among them Emilian Pop, a versatile artist with solid knowledge and experience in a variety of mediums, having worked as a sculptor, fresco restorer and painter, woodworker and graphic designer. The skinny: Port Moody Mayor and Council invite residents and businesses to attend a Town Hall Meeting on Translink’s 2011 Budget. The plan outlines funding options for expanding transportation in the region. Following a presentation on the future of the Evergreen Line and the lower priority given to the Murray-Clarke Connector, Mayor Trasolini will facilitate a discussion around funding options and community priorities. The skinny: Coquitlam Centre is holding a brand new event this year – a Kids’ Shopping Night. This event is created with children’s holiday shopping needs in mind (of course, they will bring along their parents and grandparents to join in the fun). Kids will have a chance to come dressed in their pajamas and enjoy holiday activity stations including: milk and cookie decorating station, arts and crafts station, free gift wrapping, letters to Santa station, storytime station, photos with mascots, and much more.   1. I was looking at some of the events and you say wednesday dec 1 but dec is a thursday so which is the correct date? Is the suter brook tree event wed nov 30 or thurs dec 1?

    • Looks like this site is for 2010 that’s why. I can’t seem to find any info on Suter Brook Winter Festival
      either for 2011.

      • We’ll be posting this week’s events tomorrow – we always post on Wednesdays.

        Alternately, look in our right hand sidebar under “Events Coming up” and you’ll see there’s a listing for this year’s winter festival.

      • There is a Suter Brook event today, Thursday, Dec. 1. It’s listed under the Events Calendar.
