What: Port Coquitlam Southside Heritage Walk

What: Reception for “The Legacy of Terry Fox” and “Colourwheels”
When: Thursday, August 26 at 6pm
Where: Leigh Square Community Arts Village [map]
The skinny: Meet the artists behind these exhibitions, which run until September 20, and representatives from the Terry Fox Foundation and Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion. This is a chance to celebrate local heroes, and learn more about the causes and work behind these two Foundations.

What: Chicago
When: Friday, August 27 at 8pm
Where: Red Robinson Show Theatre [map]
The skinny: Chicago has done it all … five consecutive #1 albums, thirteen platinum albums, twenty-one Top 10 singles, a Grammy and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Formed in their namesake city in 1967, Chicago’s music mixed rock, pop and jazz in a completely new way. In their influential and extensive career, Chicago is the first American band to chart a Top 40 album in five consecutive decades. Today’s line-up includes original band members Robert Lamm on vocals and keyboards, Lee Loughnane on trumpet, James Pankow on trombone and Walt Parazaider on woodwinds.

What: Neighbourhood Swap Meet
When: Saturday, August 28 from 9am-2pm

The skinny: Treasure hunters, rejoice! Browse, dig and scout through all the neighbour’s goodies at Neighbourhood Swap Meet. There is no knowing what you may find, and the best of all, no one will believe how little you paid for it.

What: Events at Inspiration Garden
When: Saturday, August 28 from 10-11am and Tuesday, August 31 from 7-7:45pm

The skinny: This week you can take courses on “Sedums and Succulents” on Saturday and “Pesticide Free Lawn & Garden Care” on Tuesday. Participants must register in advance.

What: BAD SEED – Invasive Plant Removal
When: Saturday, August 28 from 10am-2pm
Where: Dupont Cul-de-sac off Erskine Street [map]
The skinny: Walton Forest was designated as a park in response to strong public interest and initiative from Friends of Walton Forest. Work parties took place in 2008/2009 to remove invasive plants and we need your help again! Refreshments and snacks, as well as gloves and tools will be provided just bring yourself and maybe a friend.

What: Summer Bike Festival
When: Saturday, August 28 from 10am-2pm
Where: Lions Park [map]
The skinny: Come celebrate cycling in Port Coquitlam. Tots on tricycles, children with training wheels, children on two-wheelers, teen and adult riders are invited to celebrate cycling as a form of recreation, sport, and active transportation. There will be bike decorating, safety information, balloons and stickers handouts, tots riding course, family bike rodeo, bicycle engraving, and the “Tour De Lions Park”. Meet local road-racing team members, competitive youth BMX racers, the Shaughnessy Bike Park hosts, and the team of Little Sprockets and Gear-Up Mountain Biking Instructors.

What: Lantern Making Workshop
When: Saturday, August 28 from 12:30-2:30pm

The skinny: Make a lantern at this free workshop, and enter the lantern contest as part of the Mid-Autumn Festival which will be held on September 18.
