What: City Centre Off-Leash Area Open House
When: Wednesday, May 26 from 4 – 8pm

The skinny: Join the City of Coquitlam for an Information Session on the selection of dog off-leash areas for the City Centre area. The City wants to hear your ideas and suggestions, so make your voice heard.

What: Family Play and Learn Event
When: Wednesday, May 26 from 6 – 8pm
Where: Coquitlam Centre Mall [map]
The skinny: Children aged 3 to 10 and their parents are invited to join Tri-Cities librarians at Coquitlam Centre Mall for free Family Play and Learn Nights. Imagine, play and learn through stories, songs arts and more. No registration required, please drop in to the Lower Level near London Drugs and Toy Jungle.

What: 101 Dalmations
When: Wednesday, May 26 – Saturday, May 29, at 1 and 7pm
Where: Evergreen Cultural Centre [map]
The skinny: Join all the dogs of London, as they daringly rescue the puppies from Cruella De Ville and her bumbling henchmen. With lovable characters, and one of the most evil villains in the Disney canon, this stage adaptation is certain to charm and delight. And with a highly expandable chorus, the stage could easily be filled with 101 performers to fit the bill!

What: Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation Charity Golf Classic
When: Thursday, May 27, with registration at 9:30am and shotgun start at 11am
Where: Swan-E-Set in Pitt Meadows [map]
The skinny: Start with the Tim Horton’s Cruiser for that morning coffee, have lunch on the carts and finish with a big buffet dinner by the fantastic Chef at Swan-e-set! Arrive early to visit Callaway on the Range and sample the latest in clubs. Play 18 holes of golf, participate in contests and enjoy food samples on the course. Join the 260 golfers who support this tournament, raising money to buy critical equipment for Eagle Ridge Hospital.

What: Bike Safety and Child Identification
When: Thursday, May 27 from 6:30 – 8:30pm

The skinny: Bring your bike to have it engraved with your identification. Bike safety information will be also be available. Children who are at the Community Police Station will have their finger prints taken for Child Identification.

What: Best of BC Wines Uncorked
When: Friday, May 28 at 7pm
Where: Port Moody City Hall Galleria [map]
The skinny: The third wine tasting event that showcases new and current releases from top BC wineries and raises funds for the Port Moody Arts Centre. This season a number of exciting new wineries have confirmed their participation and we are now featuring over thirty of the best BC wineries as well as other local businesses and volunteers. Cheese and light snacks will also be provided.

What: Subtopia
When: Exhibition runs May 28 – July 3, Opening Reception Sunday, May 30 from 4 – 5:30pm
Where: Evergreen Cultural Centre [map]
The skinny: Kathy Tycholis’ and Carie Helm’s joint exhibition is a socially relevant art installation that comments on urban sprawl and the D.I.Y. culture of the suburbs. Tycholis and Helm work in a variety of media including sculpture, Haiku, 2D and audio art. An interactive map of the Tri-Cities will complete the exhibition highlighting specific locations of development in the area.

What: Harry Potters, 6-10 years

What: Mundy Road Country Fair
When: Saturday, May 29 from 11am – 3:30pm
Where: Mundy Road Elementary [map]
The skinny: The Mundy Road PAC is fundraising for a new playground with an old time country fair, open to the public. There will be races, a bouncy castle, a bake sale, Gizeh Shrine Clowns, a guest appearance by the famous “Red” of Red Robin Restaurants, line dancing lessons and music supplied by Boone County Cabaret, a concession and many other games and events. As well there will be a marketplace where local vendors can show off their goods.

What: Spring Tea and Silent Auction
When: Saturday, May 29 from 12:30 – 3pm
Where: Eagle Ridge Hospital, Parklane Room [map]
The skinny: The Eagle Ridge Hospital Auxiliary is holding a Spring Tea and Silent Auction. The tickets are $10.00 each and are obtainable from the Gift Shop. There will be tea and coffee and sandwiches, aw well as delicious desserts. Also a Silent Auction, 50/50 draw, bakeless bake sale and lots of door prizes. All money raised is used to supply patient comforts and equipment for Eagle Ridge Hospital.

What: Premieres of Thirteen and One Goal

The skinny: The Young Actors Project’s year-end show, featuring two original one-act plays and two original movies presented on the big screen.

What: Bob Newhart
When: Saturday, May 29 at 8pm
Where: Red Robinson Show Theatre [map]
The skinny: Bob Newhart’s career has spanned two successful television shows and fourteen feature films. He has sold millions of albums worldwide and his fans still flock to his live performances to hear such Newhart standards as “The Driving Instructor”, “Sir Walter Raleigh” and “The Submarine Commander”. As much success as Bob has enjoyed on television and in feature films, he has never strayed far from his first love of performing stand-up.

What: Como Lake Fishing Derby
When: Sunday, May 30 from 7am – 12pm
Where: Como Lake Park [map]
The skinny: The Como Lake Fishing Derby is a free event for youth under 16 years of age. Hundreds of prizes are awarded each year, from the largest and smallest fish to the strangest catch of the day. The fishing derby attracts hundreds of children each year. As the children fish, parents are welcome to enjoy a pancake breakfast cooked by the Coquitlam Kinsmen Club.

What: Coffee House Fundraiser
When: Sunday, May 30 from 7-9pm
Where: Mackin House Museum [map]
The skinny: Mackin House Museum is hosting a Coffee House fundraiser, with proceeds going to SHARE and the Coquitlam Heritage Society. John Hough and Andrea Law will feature music that draws on classic Canadian themes rooted in folk music. Come out and enjoy the fantastic acoustics our old house offers. Admission is by donation.

What: Red Venus Blue Tango
When: Sunday, May 30 at 8pm

The skinny: Red Venus Blue Tango covers an array of musical styles from Latin Pop with classical undertones to country, jazz and calypso and everything in between. The style is diverse but all encompassing. You want to dance and cry, but most of all celebrate the excellence of life and all it has to offer.
