Pre-Olympic Week in Review

This week in the V3H is like the calm before the storm. Next week we will see the Torch Relay, the start of the 2010 Olympics, Chinese New Year and Heritage Week. Even though next week is when it all goes down, there is still plenty to do this week. Check it out, and see what tickles your fancy!

If you were lucky enough to get tickets, you can check out the completely sold-out play Mom’s the Word, running daily until February 6 at the Evergreen Cultural Centre [map]. ‘The mother of all shows’ is presented by the Arts Club on Tour, and has played to rave reviews. I missed the boat on this one myslef, so kudos if you managed not to suffer the same fate.

When I was expecting my first child in 2005 I considered attending the annual Children’s Swap Meet at Poirier Community Center [map]. I decided against it, because I hadn’t had my baby shower yet and I didn’t want to end up with duplicates of everything. Then I went into preterm labour, the baby shower was cancelled, and I kicked myself for missing a great chance to pick up some cheap baby things. I am not saying that the preterm labour was related to skipping the swap meet, but I am saying that this is a once-a-year event that you do not want to miss. Learn from my mistake! The tables are all sold out, but shoppers will be sure to find great bargains on Sunday, February 7 from 9am-1pm. For more information call 604.927.6048 or email

A Spirit Swim will take place on Sunday, February 7 from 1-3pm at Hyde Creek Recreation Centre [map]. Bring your friends and join in the fun! For more information call 604.927.7946 or email

Have a great week!
