Golden Spike Days Main Stage Entertainment

Happy Canada Day! If you’re looking for something to do in or around the V3H today, check out our handy-dandy guide to local Canada Day events.

We’ll be out celebrating Canada’s 142nd birthday today. But we’re also counting down the days to the kickoff of the Golden Spike Days Festival on Friday, so let’s have a look at some of the entertainment that will be on tap at the festival main stage. The wide variety of acts mean there is always something for everyone, and this year is no different. Here is my very random sampling of who will be performing, for a more comprehensive list, check out the Golden Spike Website.

Friday, July 3rd

The accoustic stylings of The Blue Voodoo hit the stage at 6pm. Going strong since 2000, the Band has performed thousands of shows across North America and Europe. Here they are performing on Shaw TV’s Urban Rush.

Rich Hope and his Evil Doers are up at 9:30pm bringing their boogie-blues rock and roll. Here they are at Car Free Day on Main Street in Vancouver.

Saturday, July 4th

One artist making his debut this year is Ridley Bent. With music self-described as “hick hop”, melting country, rock, and hip hop; Bent will take the stage on Saturday, July 4th at 8pm. Here’s a sample…

Leeroy Stager will hit the stage at 9:00pm on Saturday. With his new album “Everything is Real”, it’s described as,

Inspired by recordings of the 70s, Stagger wanted to evoke the feeling every kid got when putting a new rock and roll record on their parents’ stereo. The result is an album that straddles the lines between the rock side of Ryan Adams, the gravel-fueled poetry of Lucinda Williams, and the muscle of early Tom Petty.

Here’s a sample from his earlier album, “Just in Case”

There will be music for the kids, music for the adults, and of course, the world famous Golden Spike Can Can Dancers.
